Google Pixel 7 Pro Review with Pros and Cons – Don’t Buy

Pixel 7 Pro has two extra features compared to Pixel 7 and if you want those two features then you will have to pay extra Rs 25000. Now, those features are 5x optical zoom and 120Hz refresh rate, that’s it.

Google Pixel 7 Pro Review

Yes, the Pixel 7 Pro is worth buying but it’s not for everyone because Google is not offering much when we compared this phone with the Pixel 7, they’re only offering two extra features which is not justifiable to pay extra Rs 25,000. However, if you have money and wanted the best Pixel device then do consider it.

The two features are 5x optical zoom and 120Hz refresh rate.

So yes, if you feel that, these two features justify the Rs 25,000 then you can pay Rs 84,999 to Google and buy the Pixel 7 Pro otherwise, Pixel 7 makes more sense at Rs 59,999.

Display

The Pixel 7 Pro comes with a 120Hz 6.70-inches LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels and pick a brightness of 1500 nits.

The display is solid, it produces vibrant and close-to-natural colors, and it’s an AMOLED panel, so what else you can expect?

That 1500 nits brightness helps a lot while using the device outdoors, you won’t face any kind of issue while reading text or doing any kind of tasks under direct sunlight.

Also, the device doesn’t have a symmetrical bezel which is disappointing as this is Rs 84,999 smartphone. Google has just used the Pixel 6 Pro design and added some of the new features on top.

Now, to differentiate the Pro model, Google has added a 120Hz refresh rate compared to 90Hz on Pixel 7.

The Pixel 7 Pro has Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and back while the frame is made from Aluminum. The rear has a glossy finish which is not cool Google, they should have gone with matt.

By the way, Google has added an optical fingerprint sensor which again is cost-cutting because we have smartphones in the 80k price range with ultra-sonic fingerprint sensors.

Again, the Optical fingerprint is not bad at all but Pixel 7 Pro’s fingerprint sensor feels slow down when we compare it with a 20k smartphone.

I don’t know what’s the issue here, the same problem was there in the Pixel 6 series and now the same is repeated in the Pixel 7 series too.

Concluding everything, the Pixel 7 Pro has a good display but those bezels don’t look that great while a slow fingerprint is not okay when we pay Rs 84999.

Performance

Pixel 7 and 7 Pro have the same chipset, so let me add some of the paragraphs from Pixel 7 Review…

With the new Google Tenser G2, Google has implemented some AI features with the stock camera app that can shoot cinematic video and much more which you won’t find in any other Android smartphone very soon.

You also have the unblur feature which will let you unblur your old photos which works great, it does its job with the help of a new Tenser G2 chipset.

This feature is pixel-exclusive but other Android brands will figure out something, one way or another.

By the way, yes Pixel 7 Pro has 5G support and it has whopping 22 5G bands which include n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n12, n14, n20, n25, n28, n30, n38, n40, n41, n48, n66, n71, n75, n76, n77, and n78

The new G2 chip is made by Samsung, so don’t expect the performance to be like Snapdragon 8+ gen 1 but it will be good enough for day-to-day usage and a bit of gaming.

Earlier, Google used the Exynos 2100 but they named it Google Tenser G1, so we don’t know yet, which Exynos processor they’re using it.

In short, this is not made for heavy games, it’s good for using social media, watching movies, or even playing games here and there. So don’t buy this device to play games, you will be disappointed, big time.

The Pixel 7 Pro runs on Android 13 and will get 3 years of OS Updates and 5 years of security updates.

By the way, some of the Pixel 7 Pro users have reported that the Pixel 7 Pro is getting hot when playing games for 1 hour and while using a smartphone outdoors.

So looks like Google Tenser G2 is a re-brand of some of Exynos processors, which one, we don’t know yet…

Here is a fun fact,

Samsung offers 4 years of OS updates in their flagship smartphone and here Google is like, We don’t Do that here…

In conclusion, Google Tenser G2 is a decent processor for normal users, it’s not made for power-hungry users.

Cameras

Pixel 7 and 7 Pro provide the same quality images expect the 7 Pro has additional telephoto.

The Pixel 7 Pro comes with a 50MP primary sensor + 48MP Telephoto Lens (5x optical zoom with OIS) + 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 10.8MP selfie shooter on the front. Both the front and rear cameras can shoot videos at 4@30/60fps & 1080p@30/60fps.

We all know Dxomark, now for those who don’t know, they test smartphone cameras and rank each smartphone from 1 to 10.

They also tested the Pixel 7 Pro and turns out that, the Pixel 7 Pro has the best cameras compared to all the other smartphones.

Now, we all know that no brand will make the perfect smartphone, so let me share what I have experienced with the cameras and some cons…

First,

There is no doubt that Pixel takes the best images and no one can compete with Google when it comes to the AI side of things but the thing is,

When it comes to indoors, the sensors heavily apply shadow to the human subject while the bokeh is not perfect when we take photos of the human face.

Sometimes, it doesn’t even blur the arm areas or the beard hair. Now, this is not a hardware issue, it’s a software issue and it can be fixed with updates but when and how much Google will improve, we’ll wait and see.

Now, of course, you will get more natural colors under sunlight or when there is enough light but the same doesn’t repeat under low light. It adds a bit of extra noise which is not good at all when the smartphone camera is ranked higher.

In short, the Pixel 7 Pro doesn’t have the perfect camera, it has its flows and I hope, google fixes these flows very soon.

I still, feel that the Pixel 7 is a more value-for-the-money device compared to the Pixel 7 Pro.

The 48MP telephoto lens does its job, you will get close to natural images up to 5x and even if you go up to 15x, you will get useable images.

Also, one should not pay extra Rs 25,000 to get a telephoto lens, I mean, it doesn’t make any sense unless and until you have money and you don’t care about it.

The 12MP Ultra-wide is good too, I mean, it’s a pixel camera, so you won’t get bad images, Google uses all the software power to give you good-looking images.

The front camera is solid too, you will get natural selfies, and the sensor size is only 10.8MP still, because of the software, you will get the best selfies.

One more thing,

If you’re not into photography and wanted the best smartphone for videos then stay away from the Pixel 7 Pro, it does take good videos but it’s not the best when we compared it with iPhones.

For videos, always prefers iPhone over any Android smartphone but for photography, Pixel is superior.

Concluding everything from rear to front camera, the Pixel 7 Pro has good cameras but we also have the Pixel 7 at 60k, so it makes more sense to consider the Pixel 7 over the 7 Pro. However, if you want a Telephoto lens then feel free to buy a Pixel 7 Pro.

Audio

No, 3.5mm Audio jack but it does have stereo speakers. The quality of the speakers is great, the bass is there and even they sound clear too.

Google has talked much about the call quality in the presentation, so let’s talk about it…

The phone has three microphones, and Google has also improved the call quality with the help of software. So yes, if you take tons of calls every day then Pixel 7 Pro would be the good smartphone to consider.

That said, it has Carrier Aggregation which will help when the smartphone is not getting enough single.

All in all, the speakers are excellent and the call quality is superb too.

Battery

The Pixel 7 Pro comes with a 4,926mAh battery with 30W wired and 23W wireless charging support and no, the charger is not supplied in the box, you have to buy it separately or use whatever you have at home.

The 30W charger will take about 30 minutes to charge from 0% to 50%.

I know, the battery size is kind of small but still, it will give about a day battery life but if you’re a heavy user then you will have to charge the Pixel 7 Pro at around 4 to 6 PM.

Again, I have said many times that Battery life depends on a user by user, in short, you won’t know how a logger battery will last for you until you use the smartphone but I have given you the rough number for your reference.
