Samsung Galaxy F42 5G Review with Pros and Cons – Skip it?
Galaxy M Series was budget segment series but now, that has become mid-budget series. To fill-up that gap, Samsung has launched a new smartphone under Galaxy F Series.
I have said many times, don’t buy a budget smartphone from Samsung because they cut out on many features and they don’t offer value but for those users who only want to buy a Samsung smartphone, this could be the best smartphone to consider.

Samsung Galaxy F42 5G Review
Samsung Galaxy F42 5G is not made for everyone, altho you can buy one but it’s the best option for those users who wanted to buy the best Samsung branded phone. Otherwise, we have better options like Moto Edge 20 Fusion, Redmi Note 10 Pro Max, and many more, so it doesn’t make any sense to pay 21k for Galaxy F42 5G.
No doubt, Galaxy F42 5G is a good smartphone but it’s not the best option at the 21k price range.
It offers an LCD, plastic build, only 15W charging support, decent camera setup, and no Stereo Speakers. So you will compromise in many features to get the Samsung logo.
Now, Galaxy F42 5G does have good features too like a good processor, 12 5G bands and that’s it. Ohh, you will also need to pay 21k to get these features.

3.5mm Audio Jack | Only 15W charging support |
Dedicated micro-SD card Slot | Overpriced |

Unspecified Display Protection |
Those were the Pros and Cons of Galaxy F42 5G, now, let’s go deep down and see whether you should spend 21k on Galaxy F42 5G or not?
Samsung Galaxy F42 5G Display Quality
The Galaxy F42 5G comes with 6.60-inches LCD 90Hz display and it also has Widevine L1 support that means, there won’t be any issue while streaming FHD+ content on OTT apps.
Samsung has used good quality IPS LCD and it is also, visible under the sunlight, so whether you want to take calls or watch YouTube Video, you will be able to do that outdoors.
Considering the price tag, Samsung should have provided an AMOLED panel but hey, this is Samsung and it’s also a Galaxy F Series smartphone, so can’t expect everything in budget Samsung smartphone.
By the way, it has a good-old waterdrop notch, I mean, most of the phones has moved to punch-hole but Samsung is like, we don’t do that here…

Also, Samsung didn’t mention what kind of glass protection they have used on the front side, so can’t comment on the quality of glass but the back, it has plastic while the frame is also made out of plastic.
Overall, the LCD is good but considering the price tag, it doesn’t justify it. So, if you’re okay with an LCD panel and if you want Samsung only a smartphone with 5G then this could be a good option to consider.
Samsung Galaxy F42 5G Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy F42 5G has 64MP primary sensor, 5MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP depth while there is a 16MP selfie shooter. Both of these cameras can shoot videos up to [email protected] while there is no OIS support.
In short, whenever you shoot videos with Galaxy F42 5G, the videos will come out shaky. Also, video quality is not that great, it misses out on details and there is some issue with dynamic range too.
So yes, don’t expect the video quality to come out very good.
Coming to the 64MP primary sensor, it takes some good images under good lighting but when it comes to low light, it misses out on details. In short, Samsung needs to work on the camera, maybe, OTA updates can fix the problem but I can’t comment on future updates.
It also has a 5MP ultra-wide lens, take this sensor as an add-on. 5MP sensor for ultra-wide is not good enough because ultra-wide lens capture more area and when there is more area, the bigger sensor can do a better job.
5MP sensor is not that great, a 12MP sensor would have a good option. Also, don’t ever use the ultra-wide lens at night, you will lose out on details and the images won’t be useable.
There is also a 2MP depth sensor but it’s just for marketing to say, the phone has a triple rear camera setup.
The 16MP selfie shooter takes good images in daylight but at night, it works the same as the primary sensor, it will lose out on details while there will be noise in the images.
Also, as this is Samsung budget smartphone, there is nothing to complain about because most of the budget smartphone from Samsung has this same issue.
So if you’re using a Samsung smartphone for a long time then you will be more than happy with the Galaxy F42 5G camera.
All in all, considering the 21k price tag, the Galaxy F42 5G doesn’t provide good images even videos, so if you can pay extra for the Samsung logo then go for it but if you want value for money device, it is better to go with Moto Edge 20 Fusion 5G or any other 4G smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy F42 5G Performance
No Exynos 9611 this time, Samsung has gone with Mediatek. The Galaxy F42 5G is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor and running on OneUI 3.1-based on Android 11.
The MediaTek Dimensity 700 is a 5G processor and Samsung has used that 5G here, the device has 12 5G bands which means, whenever 5G launches in India, the Galaxy F42 5G will able to take advantage of the 5G network.
Now, the MediaTek Dimensity 700 is a good processor and it can handle almost everything, so there won’t be any issue while playing games or even watching movies.
The OneUI is also well-optimized by Samsung, so no issues with software too.
Overall, don’t worry about performance, this time, Samsung has provided a good processor which will perform well in day to day life.
Samsung Galaxy F42 5G Audio Quality
This is where things get tricky, it only has a single bottom-firing speaker which is kind of okay. Don’t expect the audio quality to be perfect or better.
The good thing is, the device does have a secondary noise cancellation microphone that means, there won’t be any issue while taking calls on Galaxy F42 5G.
Overall, the speaker is kind of average and doesn’t justify the 21k price tag.
Samsung Galaxy F42 5G Battery Life
The Galaxy F42 5G comes with a 5,000 mAh battery with 15W charging support. This means, the battery will last for a day but when put the phone charge, it will take hall lot of time because of that 15W adapter.
Even if you’re a heavy user, the battery will last for a day and you will end up with about 5% to 10% battery but that slow is a kind of a bummer.
Verdict
Samsung Galaxy F42 5G is the best smartphone for Samsung users but if you want value for money device then this is not the best option for you. You can skip the Galaxy F42 5G and look for other smartphones.
Now, keep in mind, 5G is not real in India, so don’t buy a balanced 5G smartphone, go for the best 4G smartphone.
Also, Galaxy F42 5G is not a bad smartphone but at 21k, this is bad.

It’s better than other 5g phones as it comes with so many features including the dimensity 700 chipset that is quite powerful.
Really good-looking device with a robust Dimensity 700 chipset.
