Vivo X80 5G Review with Pros and Cons – Bit Pricey

Vivo X80 5G Review

Vivo X80 5G Review

Vivo has entered the premium smartphone market with the latest Vivo X80 series, as we all know, the X series is known to provide the best-in-class cameras at a premium price and Vivo has done the same with the newly launched Vivo X80 5G.

The Vivo X80 5G price in India starts from Rs 54999 for 8GB of Ram and 128GB storage while the 12GB Ram + 256GB storage variant is priced at Rs 59,999. The device comes with Cosmic Black and Urban Blue color options while it will be available from the 25th of May 2022 via Flipkart at noon.

So let’s see whether you should spend Rs 54999 to buy Vivo X80 5G or Not?

Vivo X80 5G Review

Yes, Vivo X80 5G is worth buying because its offers real value, it has a powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor, superfast 80W charging support, 120hz AMOLED Display, 50MP triple cameras with OIS support, super-bright display, solid build quality, and its available at Rs 54999 which does seem bit extra but this is Vivo, you will have to pay a premium to get that Vivo Logo.

We all know that Vivo charges a premium for most of their smartphone and the same can be said for the Vivo X80 5G. This would have been the best smartphone at Rs 47999 but as the phone has Vivo Logo, now, it’s available at Rs 54999.

If you’re buying Vivo X80 5G for cameras then I would recommend you to wait for some time because the phone price will come down after some time or you can also consider the Vivo X70 Pro 5G too.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is a great processor and it’s as powerful as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, so there is nothing to worry about the performance.

The 4500mAh battery does seem low but again, it also supports 80W fast charging, so this won’t be a huge problem for most people.

Also yes, the phone has dual speakers, 11 5G Bands, NFC support, an IR blaster, and an 80W charger supplied in the box.

Considering the price and specs, I don’t recommend the Vivo X80 5G because it’s a bit pricey compared to its competition. Still, if you’re willing to pay Rs 54999 for what Vivo X80 5G offers then go for it, you won’t be disappointed with cameras or even performance, it’s just that, Vivo is charging a premium for their brand.

Display

The Vivo X80 5G comes with a 6.78-inches 120Hz AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels with a pick brightness of 1500 nits and an 89.4% screen-to-body ratio.

It also has widevine L1 support which means you will be able to stream FHD+ content on OTT platforms.

As you can see, this is a curved display, the curved is not that big but it’s there which gives you that premium feel. Now, if you ask me, I’m not a big fan of curved panels, I would rather have a flat display.

What about you, do let me know in the comment box…

Coming back to the display, the screen brightness is great, that 1500 nits help a lot outdoors, there won’t be any kind of problems while using the smartphone under the sunlight, and the screen will be visible enough to use the smartphone.

The phone also feels smooth because of that 120hz screen refresh rate but again, if you use 120hz then the battery life also goes down, so it’s better to keep the screen refresh rate to Auto.

Overall, for the price of Rs 54999, there is nothing to complain about about the display, its good quality AMOLED display and you will enjoy this display whenever you watch movies or while playing games.

Performance

As I have said, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is a great processor and it’s as powerful as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, so whether you want to play heavy games or not, the performance won’t be an issue.

The device runs on Fun Touch OS 12 based on Android 12. Vivo has promised three years of OS updates and four years of security updates.

The only thing I love to see is, how much time they take to provide Android 13 on this device. By the way, I will let you know, when they will update to the next OS in how much time…

Vivo has also added 11 5G bands which are sufficient enough to use the 5G network whenever 5G goes live in India.

I think you already get the Idea that how powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor is but still if you want to buy Vivo X80 5G to play games then go for it, you will be more than happy with it the person whether its in games or in day to day life.

Cameras

Vivo X80 5G comes with a 50MP Primary sensor which has OIS support, a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and 12MP ultra-wide lens while there is a 32MP selfie shooter on the front.

The rear camera can shoot videos at 4k@30/60fps and 1080p@30/60fps while the front can shoot at only 1080p@30/60fps, there is no 4k support for the front camera.

Before we dive into the cameras, let me just say one thing…

Vivo X80 5G provides almost the same images as Vivo X70 Pro 5G, there is not a huge difference. Vivo has done some improvements but they are just minor ones, if you see both of these phone images side by side, you won’t able to tell the difference until and unless you’re a geek like me.

Now, back to the Vivo X80 5G cameras…

The 50MP primary sensor has OIS support and its works great, the videos come out stable in 1080p@30fps, for some reason, videos don’t come out stable in 4k.

Vivo has also worked on the colors too, and this time, the colors look more natural. Also, as this is a Vivo phone, the colors do pop out a bit but it’s not too much compared to other Vivo phones.

Related: Best Smartphones Under Rs 30,000

OIS also helps a lot in images too, if you’re in a hurry and if you take images, the images will come out stable and clean because of that OIS support.

The sensor also provides good details too, the colors are not that saturated which is a great thing because we have seen Vivo Phones try to boost the colors.

As this is a Vivo phone, you will get tons of filler within the stock camera app. There is also night mode available which works great.

The Night mode does expose the images at night but it also maintains the details too.

Talking about the 12MP telephoto lens,

It supports the 2x optical zoom and as this is a normal zoom lens it provided good details and balanced colors. By the way, I would have loved to too 5x optical zoom because this is a 55k smartphone

The 12MP ultra-wide does its job, again, a typical ultra-wide lens, there is nothing new to talk about.

Again, considering the price, Vivo should have provided the bigger ultra-wide lens because we all that, an ultra-wide lens captures more areas and if the sensor is big then it can provide more details compared to the smaller sensor.

Now, it’s not like, the ultra-wide lens is bad or doesn’t provide good images, it’s just that, as this is a premium smartphone, it would have been great if the phone had the bigger ultra-wide lens.

Coming to 32MP front cameras, this sensor takes good videos but it has the same dynamic range issue which we talked about in Vivo X70 5G Review. As I have said, it can be fixed with OTA updates but again, it depends on Vivo whether they want to fit it or not.

We all know that Vivo is known for front cameras, so yes, there is no issue with the selfies. The sensor takes some of the best selfies and I think you will love what Vivo has done with the front cameras, by the way, the same can’t be said for the videos.

Overall, the phone does give you that premium camera vibe but in reality, the Vivo X80 5G has good cameras, it’s almost similiter the last-gen Vivo X70 Pro 5G (review)

Audio Quality

The Vivo X80 5G has a stereo speaker which works fine, no issues there. Its dual speakers, so can’t complain much.

It also has a secondary noise cancellation microphone. There is also carrier aggregation support which will help a lot in calling.

As this is a flagship smartphone, there is no 3.5mm audio jack. You can use the TWS earbuds or buy Type-C to 3.5mm dongle for wired earphones.

Vivo has also added an IR blaster too.

Overall, the sound quality is good and there are no issues with call quality too.

Battery Life

The Vivo X80 5G comes with a 4,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging support. The 80W charger will take about 11 minutes to charge from 0 to 50%.

The phone doesn’t have wireless charging support but Vivo has added an 80W charger in the box.

Overall, the battery should last for the day because of the processor but in the end, it depends on you, and how you use your smartphone every day.

Now, if you’re a heavy user then you will need to charge this smartphone two times a day.

You can also use the 80W charger, so even if the battery doesn’t last for a day then the charger will help a lot.
