RealMe 9 Pro+ 5G Review with Pros and Cons – Overpriced?

RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G Review

RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G

RealMe 9 Series is here with upgraded pricing, the newly launched RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G price in India starts from Rs 24,999 and this is not the perfect price but it’s also not very pricey.

I would have been very happy if RealMe have priced RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G at 22k but that didn’t happen, so now, we have to pay 25k.

RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G Price in India

The device is available in Sunrise Blue Midnight Black and Aurora Green color options and it will go for sale on 21st February 2022 at noon via Flipkart and RealMe.com/in.

RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G Review

Yes, RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G is worth buying because it has great cameras, superfast 60W charging support, premium design, 13 5G Bands, a 90Hz AMOLED display, and it comes with Android 12 out of the box.

I get it, the price is not that aggressive, RealMe could have launched this smartphone at 22k or even 23k but they didn’t happen.

So now, if you want the best cameras under 25k in India then this could be a good option otherwise, this is not the only smartphone available in India.

Xiaomi has also launched the Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge (Review) and this phone was marketed as the fastest charging phone because of its 120W charging speed.

The same is happing with the RealMe 9 Pro Plus, this is marketed as the best camera smartphone because of the flagship Sony IMX766 sensor which we have seen in the OnePlus 9RT 5G (Review) and even in Vivo V70 Pro 5G (Review).

Overall, if you want the best cameras and if you can pay 25k for them then this is a good smartphone, again, this is not the best option for gaming but it’s an overall balanced smartphone.

Display Quality

When we go above 20k, we expect a 120Hz refresh rate because most of the smartphones are offering the same but the same can’t be said for the RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G because it only has a 90Hz screen refresh rate.

The device comes with 6.40-inches sAMOLED 90Hz refresh rate with 480 typical brightness and 240 touch sampling rate.

On the front side, it has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 while on the rear side too, it has glass but RealMe didn’t mention which kind of protection they used. The frame is made out of plastic.

Keep in mind, the back has glossy glass which means, it will catch fingerprints very easily, also, this is a mirror back.

Talking about myself, I don’t like the design.

RealMe also added Widevine L1 support which means you will be able to stream FHD+ content on OTT apps like Netflix and Prime Videos.

Also, as this smartphone has an AMOLED panel, RealMe has added an in-display fingerprint sensor which works fine as usual.

Overall, it would have been better, if RealMe went with a 120Hz AMOLED panel, so looks like Realme did a little bit of cost-cutting nevertheless, the RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G has a good display.

Performance

We have recently seen MediaTek Dimensity 920 processor in Xiaomi 11i 5G and now, RealMe has added the same chipset in the newly launched RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G.

The good thing is, that the device runs on RealMe UI 3.0 based on Android 12. Realme has also promised two years of OS updates and three years of security updates.

The MediaTek Dimensity 920 is a powerful processor and it can handle almost all mobile games without any problem but this is not a gaming chipset.

That means, if you’re a gamer then you should skip the RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G and take look at the POCO F3 GT 5G.

The RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G combines a good camera and a good processor, you can call this a balanced smartphone.

Here comes the confusing part,

Flipkart shows that RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G has only 5 5G bands while RealMe’s official website shows 13 5G bands, so here, I’m going with Realme’s website.

Still, if I get any confirmation about that, I will update you right here.

By the way, BGMI Mobile Game supports max HDR at an Extreme frame rate.

Now, keep in mind, if you play BGMI at the highest graphics, the game does lag a little bit, so I would recommend you play smooth at an Extreme frame rate for better gameplay.

Overall, for day-to-day use, you won’t face any kind of problem, the phone will work like butter but as I have said, this is not a gaming smartphone, so don’t expect that.

Cameras

The RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G comes with a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor (OIS) + 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro lens while there is a 16MP selfie shooter on the front.

The rear cameras can shoot videos at 4k@30fps, and 1080p@30/60fps while the front can shoot at only 1080p@30fps.

The Sony IMX766 flagship sensor and we’re getting the same sensor at a mid-budget price which good thing.

Also, RealMe has added OIS support which is another plus point and at this movement, under 30k, only OnePlus Nord 2 5G has the OIS, and now, Realme 9 Pro Plus 5G also has the same.

Now, the OIS does work, it takes a good image compared to any other smartphone under 30k but still, I feel, Realme needs to work on that OIS.

If they’re marketing the OIS then it should work the best and not good.

The videos also come out very well because of the OIS, even if you’re vlogging or taking random videos, the footage will come out stable.

OIS also helps a lot in photography too, so when you’re taking images, the hands will shake a little bit and this is where, OIS helps, it will remove that shakiness and capture a good quality image.

There is no doubt about that 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, it takes good images even at night and RealMe has also optimized the good.

Now, you won’t get the natural colors, Realme is trying to boost the colors a little bit, so yes, the image will come out brighter and more vibrant.

This is the case with most of the RealMe smartphones, so there is nothing new.

The 8MP ultra-wide lens is decent and it takes good images. Again, the ultra-wide lens needs a little bit of improvement.

Also, ignore that 2MP macro sensor, it’s useless.

Coming to 16MP front camera. We have seen this same sensor in many Realme phones, so there is nothing new to say.

The selfies are useable and you can post them on social media.

Overall, RealMe has done a great job with cameras, and now, I can say, the RealMe 9 Pro Plus has the best cameras under Rs 25,000 in India.

Now, if you can go above 25k then it’s better to go with OnePlus Nord 2 5G (Review) but if you don’t want to spend more than 25k then I feel, RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G is also a good option to look at.

Again I will this, this is not a gaming smartphone, so don’t expect the gaming to be great.

Audio Quality

The RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G has a stereo speaker which works fine, no issues there. Its dual speakers, so can’t complain much.

It also has a secondary noise-cancellation microphone. The RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G does have carrier aggregation support.

As this is a budget smartphone, Realme has added a 3.5mm audio jack.

Overall, the sound quality is good and there are no issues with call quality too.

Battery Life

The RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G comes with a 4,500mAh battery with 60fast charging support. The 66W charger will take about 44 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%.

Overall, the battery should last for the day because of the processor but in the end, it depends on you, and how you use your smartphone every day.

Now, if you’re a heavy user then you will need to charge this smartphone two times a day.

You can also use the 60W charger, so even if the battery doesn’t last for a day then it will be charged in 44 minutes.

Verdict

The realMe Note series suppose to be budget-centric series but now, after the launch of the Realme 9 Series, things are changing.

There is no doubt, RealMe is charging a little bit of extra money for RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G and that could be because of chip shortage and GST but again, even after that, it’s a bit pricey.

I feel, if you want a balanced smartphone then you can take look at RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G and you will be more than happy with the cameras, performance, battery life, build, and even with speakers too.

Also, don’t expect smartphone prices to be cheap, phones are about to get expensive because of the chipset shortage and the Indian Government has also increased the GST too.

So I won’t be surprised if, RealMe increases the RealMe 9 Pro Plus 5G smartphone price letter.
