OnePlus Nord 2T 5G Review with Pros and Cons – Better to Skip

OnePlus Nord 2T 5G Asphalt Legends Gameplay

OnePlus Nord 2T 5G

OnePlus is a mess right now after the merger with OPPO, the newly launched OnePlus Nord 2T 5G is the same as OnePlus Nord 2 5G with a minor change, this is not the OnePlus we used to know.

The OnePlus Nord 2T 5G price in India starts from Rs 28,999 for 8GB of Ram and 128GB storage while another 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant is priced at Rs 33,999. The device is available in Gray Shadow Jade Fog and it will go for sale on 5th July 2022 at noon via Amazon.

So let’s review the smartphone and find out whether it’s worth the Rs 28999 price or not. because Nothing is also coming with Nothing Phone (1) on 12th July 2022.

OnePlus Nord 2T 5G Review

Yes, OnePlus Nord 2T 5G is worth buying but it’s not for everyone, it’s a balanced smartphone that comes with a 50MP triple camera with OIS, 80W fast charging support, 90Hz AMOLED panel, 7 5G Bands, and its available at Rs 28999 which is a decent price for what OnePlus is offering.

To be frank, I don’t trust OnePlus after the merger with OPPO, what if we see ads and OPPO’s app store?

Many people don’t have any issue with ColorOS and for those people, OnePlus Nord 2T 5G makes more sense because, after the launch of this device, OnePlus discontinued the OnePlus Nord 2 5G.

By the way, the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 is a new processor but technically it’s the same as MediaTek Dimensity 1200, MediaTek has only changed the name, and Real-World use will be the same.

The cameras are unchanged too, Nord 2 and Nord 2T has the same camera setup and they both provide the same image quality.

Overall, if you’re looking for a smartphone with a good camera and you’re not that heavy gamer then OnePlus Nord 2T 5G is a good option to consider.

Also, if you’re okay with a decent camera and you wanted a powerful processor for gaming then you won’t find a better option than IQOO Neo 6 5G (Review).

Display

It is a literal re-brand of the OnePlus Nord 2 5G, so one should not expect the 120hz refresh rate.

The Nord 2T 5G comes with a 6.43-inches 90Hz AMOLED display, the front & back are protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and the frame is made out of plastic while it’s HDR10+ certified.

I have checked on Netflix but I didn’t find the HDR10+ tag on any content, looks like OnePlus needs to push an OTA update for that, and till then you have to watch the movies and TV shows without HDR.

By the way, it does have Widevine L1 support which means, you will be able to watch movies and TV shows in FHD+ resolution.

The display is visible under the sunlight. So if you use the device under the sunlight then the screen will be visible and you will be able to use the OnePlus Nord 2T 5G without any problem.

I will say it again, the 120hz refresh rate would have been great as this is priced at 30k but now, what can we do, 90hz will also work fine.

Now, if you can see the front side, it has a big bigger bottom chin on the front side which doesn’t give a premium feel, it feels like you’re using a Rs 15000 smartphone.

Overall, for day-to-day use, there won’t be any kind of issue but I feel, as this is an upgrade over Nord 2 5G, OnePlus should have gone with a better display and design.

Performance

We all know that OnePlus Nord 2 5G ware blasting all over India and that’s the reason why OnePlus launched the OnePlus Nord 2 5G again with a different name and design because that blasting phone did affect the sales.

Now, we’re here with OnePlus Nord 2T 5G with an all-new MediaTek Dimensity 1300 processor.

Coming to performance, the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 is a powerful processor and there won’t be any kind of problem while playing games or using smartphones day-to-day life.

The phone also has 7 5G bands which means whenever 5G launches in India, the phone will be able to take advantage.

It runs on Oxygen OS 12.1 based on Android 12, OnePlus has also promised two years of OS updates and there years of security updates but we all know that, how fast OnePlus has become with updates, so you don’t have to worry about the Android updates.

I mean, OnePlus is pushing Android OS updates after years of its official release, so take it as you like.

If you living under a rock, OnePlus has integrated ColorOS with Oxygen OS, so yes, this is not the Oxygen OS that we use to know, you can just call it ColorOS without ads (for now).

Overall, the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 powerful processor, so you won’t face any problems in day-to-day life, its good SoC for the 28k price.

Cameras

The OnePlus Nord 2T 5G features Sony IMX 766 50MP primary sensor (OIS), 8MP ultra-wide, and 2MP macro sensor while on the front we have a 32MP selfie shooter. The rear camera can record video up to 4k@30fps while the front can shoot up to 1080p@30fps, the 50MP sensor also has OIS which gives an extra advantage while shooting videos.

The Sony IMX 766 50MP sensor is the same as the OnePlus 9 but the image quality is not the same as Hasselblad technology does reusables in OnePlus Nord 2T 5G.

The color comes out very well whether the images are taken at night or day. So 50MP sensor does make a huge difference.

Talking about 8MP ultra-wide lens, here I feel, the ultra-wide lens is just another addon like a 2MP sensor. The images come out with good dynamic range but most of the time, images turned out to be soft.

If you throw a good amount of light then, the ultra-wide lens will give the best images but when there is no light or a little bit of light then the images won’t give you that 29k smartphone vibe.

Also, talking about night mode, the OnePlus Nord 2T 5G provides the best images at night. It’s even better than IQOO Neo 6 5G and Motorola Edge 30 5G.

So yes, that 1.9 aperture does help a lot under the low light condition but keep in mind, don’t use the ultra-wide lens at night, always use a 50MP primary sensor because this lens has a 1.9 aperture which lets more light into the lens.

Coming to selfies, the OnePlus Nord 2T 5G has a 32MP selfie shooter. Overall, considering the price tag, there won’t be any problems. It will give the best possible images.

Again, the front camera also tries to soften the image which is good for some people but not for everyone.

OnePlus Nord 2T 5G has good cameras but not the best and it is not a true upgrade from the OnePlus Nord 2 5G. So if you can wait a little bit then do because Nord 3 5G will launch in a month or you can also consider the Nothing Phone (1) 5G too.

Here is the camera sample of the OnePlus Nord 2T 5G…

Audio

It has stereo speakers and there is a secondary noise-cancellation microphone on the top side.

The sound quality is superb whether you’re watching videos in a public place or playing games, you will be able to hear the sound clearly. Also, the noise-cancellation microphone does help a lot in calling.

For those who are wondering, no the OnePlus Nord 2T 5G doesn’t have the 3.5mm audio jack or even a micro-SD card slot.

Battery

The OnePlus Nord 2T 5G comes with a 4,500 mAh battery with 80W wired fast charging support which will charge the device from 1% to 100% in 28 Minutes.

Now let me tell you a fun fact,

In short, 80W looks better on paper but doesn’t do much in real life

The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 is a battery-efficient processor which means the battery will last for a day. Also, that 80W fast charging helps a lot but keep in mind, always keep that charge and cable with you, other chargers won’t able to charge the OnePlus Nord 2T 5G at 80W.
