Motorola Edge 30 Ultra Review with Pros and Cons – Spectacular on Paper

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra Review

A smartphone that offers everything will not have everything perfect which is the case with the newly launched Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. The phone has spectacular specs on paper and in some areas it does reflect in real life but still, it’s hard to sell the device when it is priced at Rs 59999.

So let’s find out in this Motorola Edge 30 Ultra Review whether the world’s 1st 200MP smartphone is worth buying or not.

Love to read books, check out BookiesTalk where you can read books for free. You will also get to download PDFs for Free and some book recommendations too. So, see you there.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra Review

Yes, the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is worth buying but again, it’s not for everyone because the 128GB variant at Rs 59,999 is a bit pricey compared to its competition, the biggest disadvantage will be night photography, it does great in daylight but the same doesn’t reflect in the night.

Motorola has announced the 256GB variant but they haven’t announced the price. Now looking at the 128GB variant price, the 256GB variant might come at around Rs 64,999 or above.

Also, the phone doesn’t have any kind of ads or bloatware, so that is another reason why the phone is a bit pricey because Xiaomi and even RealMe earns a good amount of money by pushing ads on their smartphone while Motorola is not earning a single rupee after they sell the smartphone.

Overall, if you’re looking for a smartphone under Rs 60000 and wanted a stock Android experience, excellent 144Hz pOLED panel, superfast performance, solid battery life, good-looking design and if you can compromise a bit on the camera side of things then do consider the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra: Display

144Hz screen refresh is common on Motorola smartphones, so there is nothing new to talk about but yes, it feels smooth whether playing games or even using social media apps.

1250 nits brightness will ensure that you will see everything on the screen, whether you want to watch YouTube videos or take video calls, everything will be crystal clear even under the sunlight.

I’m not a bit curved display guy, I prefer the flat panel but yes, the curved display looks amazing.

You can also watch HDR content on Netflix and Prime videos along with that it does has Wide Vine L1 support too.

On the front and rear, it has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 Protection while the frame is made from aluminum which will give you a premium feel. Now, of course, the glass is glass and it will break, so it’s better you use a good case to protect the device.

With Motorola Edge 30 Series, Motorola is more focused on the Desing side of things and they’re doing well too, I personally love the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion’s Solar Gold color.

Overall, you will be more than happy with its build and display, Motorola has done a great job which does reflect in real-life usage.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra: Cameras

Note: If you want you can check out the Camera sample of Motorola Edge 30 ultra, it’s a Google Drive link, so go there and see it by yourself.

Play the drum roll and let’s welcome the world’s 1st 200MP smartphone that will give 12MP images (pun intended)…

I don’t get why mobile brands want to use the bigger and bigger sensors, they can archive everything they want even in 48MP sensors.

Now, like how the vice person said, brands are here to make a profit and a bigger sensor does help a lot in marketing.

Back to the 200MP sensor,

By default, the 200MP sensor will take 12.5MP images that use pixel-binning to combine 16 pixels into one. Now to use 200MP images, you will have to switch to Pro Mode.

One More Thing, the 200MP image file size will be 40MB to 80MB which means, if you’re going to take all the images in 200MP mode then do wait for the 256GB variant otherwise, the 128GB storage will be filled very quickly.

By the way, I didn’t notice a huge difference between 200MP images and 12.5MP images. What I’m saying is, don’t buy the smartphone, just because it has a bigger 200MP sensor when it comes to real-life usage, you won’t see a huge difference in 48MP or even 200MP sensor.

Yes, when you take a 200MP image, you will get more details but that shouldn’t be a reason to spend 60k.

Also, Motorola has done a good job in dynamic range, it doesn’t overexpose the background even under direct sunlight. The details were there and you will see that Motorola has worked on the camera and didn’t just add a sensor for marketing.

Now the problem is,

The images are coming out saturated, Motorola is using the same image processing as Vivo and OPPO which I’m not a big fan of.

Why they can’t just use natural colors, at the end, it’s Rs 60000 and it should produce close to natural images.

The saturation is not much but when compared to budget smartphones, you will see that colors are popping out.

I also get that most users love whiter and saturated images, so they can upload them on social media but I also feel that brands can also add filters for that within the camera app, so they shouldn’t just add saturated colors by default.

This is Rs 59,999 and I Expected better from Motorola…

I know, I’m talking too much but also, you’re about to spend Rs 59999 on a smartphone and you should know what you’re getting…

Coming to 50MP Ultra-Wide Lens,

The Ultra-wide lens doesn’t produce the same colors as the primary sensor and the details are also not the same but still, the lens will provide better images than Motorola Edge 30 Pro’s Ultra-Wide lens.

The device also has a night mode which works great but still, Motorola needs to work on it because it doesn’t process the image properly.

It can be improved with updates but for that, we have to wait and see…

Pro-tip, don’t use the ultra-wide lens at night, always take night images with the primary sensor.

Talking about the 12MP telephoto lens,

The 12MP sensor can do 2X optical zoom, I wish, Motorola has provided the 3x or even 5X optical zoom.

You can also take portrait images with a telephoto lens and the image will come out good.

There is nothing more to talk about, so let’s jump into the front camera.

Here comes the massive 60MP front Camera

Again, added for marketing and it doesn’t reflect the 60MP quality in real life.

I have never seen whiter images on any of Motorola Devices but looks like, this is the starting point and we will see this image processing in upcoming Moto devices.

Just like how Vivo and OPPO adds pre-applied beauty mode, the same is done by Motorola in Motorola Edge 30 Ultra 5G.

Again, as I have said, you will love the front camera because it takes whiter images, so you don’t have to apply the filter when posting images on Instagram.

Now, if you’re like me, who doesn’t like white images and wanted natural color tons then you can always use the GCam whenever it’s available for Moto Edge 30 Ultra 5G.

Lastly, Videos

The rear camera can shoot video at 1080p@30/60fps, 4k@30fps, and 8k@30fps while the front can shoot at 1080p@30fps and 4k@30fps.

Only the primary sensor has OIS support while other sensors rely on EIS.

The video optimization is good, I didn’t find huge shakiness while shooting videos with a primary sensor but of course, if you’re running and taking video at the same time then the video will have a little bit of shakiness.

In short, it takes almost the same videos as Motorola Edge 30 Fusion 5G.

So yes, Motorola needs to improve the OIS further, so we can get better stabilization when shooting videos.

In conclusion, the camera could have been better and Motorola needs to work on low-light photographs to justify the Rs 59,999 price tag. Nonetheless, the device has a good camera setup and it can be improved further, so we can take full advantage of the 200MP sensor.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra: Performance

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is new 4nm processor from Qualcomm and they have fixed the throttling and heating issue, other than that, there is nothing new that you should know.

The last gen processor was throttling and heating a lot because it was manufactured by Samsung, so this time, Qualcomm canceled the Samsung contract and went back with TSMC.

What I’m saying is, that whether you want to play heavy games like COD Mobile, Apex Legend, or any other, the processor won’t heat up and give you any kind of problems.

Performance Score:

The device runs on MyUX 3.0 based on Android 12 and it will get 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security updates.

It’s pure stock UI with no ads or even bloatware.

Now, if you don’t like clean Android and wanted customization like dual apps and many more features then you might not like the MyUX but if you wanted to experience the Pixel-like experience then there is no better smartphone than the Moto Edge 30 Ultra at this movement.

All in all, from gaming to day-to-day usage, you won’t face any kind of problems.

One More thing which I have already discussed in Motorola Edge 30 Fusion Review,

Improved Ready For 5.3

If you have used Motorola Edge 20 Series smartphone then you will know about the Ready For PC feature that lets you clone the Motorola smartphone on a windows PC, just like how Samsung does with Galaxy Dex.

Now with the new Improved Ready For 5.3, you have a dedicated entertainment option where you can watch movies or TV shows on a PC or smart TV by connecting with Motorola Edge 30 Ultra.

Related5 Best Smartphones Under Rs 25000

You know, how some of the OTT platforms disable the screen-cast and you only see a black screen when cast movies from mobile to smart TV, that problem has been solved by Motorola in the new Ready For 5.3 version.

The new version has also improved the connectivity and it’s smoother than before.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra: Audio

Ready let’s talk about it,

The device has stereo speakers along with a dual microphone, Carrier Aggregation support, and Bluetooth 5.2 for better connectivity.

Both speakers provide a balanced sound, it’s not like one is producing extra sound and one is just throwing out 30% volume.

The call quality is excellent too, the Carrier Aggregation helps a lot in outdoor conditions.

The Stereo Speakers have Dolby Atmos support which means, you will experience the best sound while watching movies or even watching YouTube videos.

By the way, it doesn’t have a 3.5mm Audio jack but if you want, you can always use Type-C to 3.5mm Audio dongle to use wired earphones.

Overall, you will be more than happy with the audio quality and even with call quality too.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra: Battery

The 4,610mAh battery is not enough for all day but Motorola has added massive 125W wired and 50W wireless charging support along with that 125W charger included in the box.

The battery will last for about a day with normal usage, you will end up with a 10% battery at around 6 PM but if you’re a mixed user then expect to charge this device twice a day.

Now, this won’t be a big problem because Motorola has provided a 125W charger in the box.

The wireless charger is not included with the smartphone, you will have to buy it separately.

Verdict

Motorola is on right track and they’re doing extremely well, the only thing they need to work on is the cameras and especially the low light photography other than that, the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is worth every single penny.

3.6
