Redmi K50i 5G Review with Pros and Cons – Gaming King

Redmi K50i 5G Review

Redmi K50i 5G Review

For the first time, I can say that the phone is made for specific users, it’s not made for everything yet everyone can buy it because it’s available at a good price.

The Redmi K50i 5G price in India starts from Rs 25,999 for 6GB of Ram and 128GB storage while the 8GB Ram and 256GB storage variant is priced at Rs 28,999. The device is available in Phantom Blue, Stealth Black, and Quick Silver color option and it will go for sale on 23rd July 2022 via Amazon at noon.

So in this review, you will know whether this smartphone is made for you or not.

Redmi K50i 5G Review

Yes, the Redmi K50i 5G is worth buying but it’s not made for everyone because Redmi has focused on performance, and because of that, they have ignored the build and cameras, so if you wanted to buy a gaming smartphone then you can consider it otherwise skip it.

By the way, this is not the only gaming smartphone available under Rs 30000, we have phones like IQOO Neo 6 5G and even POCO F4 5G, and both of these phones have powerful processors and even AMOLED displays.

But the POCO F4 5G is available from Rs 28,999 while IQOO Neo 6 5G is available from Rs 29,999. So yes, there is 4 thought price difference.

In short, if you’re okay with LCD display and wanted a powerful gaming smartphone then just go with Redmi K50i 5G but if you’re that user who wanted to buy a gaming phone with an AMOLED panel then I would recommend you to consider the IQOO Neo 6 5G over POCO F4 5G.

In the end, it all depends on your budget or how much you’re willing to pay.

Display

The Redmi K50i 5G comes with a 144Hz 6.60-inches LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels and a 270Hz touch sampling rate. The rear and frame are made out of plastic while there corning gorilla glass 5 on the front to protect the display.

This is where things could change for some users because of the LCD panel,

Now, if you ask me, I don’t love to use LED displays because the experience you get with AMOLED is beyond amazing.

For me, it is software, cameras, and display, I don’t care whether my phone has a powerful processor or not, I can work with a decent processor because I don’t play games on smartphones.

For you, it might be different.

You also need to keep in mind that, you won’t get everything at a 26k price tag, you will have to pay extra to get an AMOLED display and powerful processor and that’s the reason why IQOO Neo 6 5G (review) is priced at Rs 30k and not 26k.

In short, Redmi wanted the price of this device lower, so they didn’t go with a solid build or even AMOLED panel.

Now, talking about the display, the used LED panel is good, there won’t be any issue while playing games or watching YouTube videos, it’s a good quality panel that also comes with a 144hz refresh rate.

Again, the device has all the features like Widevine L1 and even Dolby Vision.

By the way, you can choose the refresh rate from 60hz, 90hz, and 144Hz. The 650 nits brightness also helps also while using a smartphone outdoors.

Overall, there won’t be any kind of problems with the display unless and until you wanted an AMOLED display.

Performance

Another smartphone with MediaTek Dimensity 8100 processor but this device is available at Rs 25,999 while RealMe GT Neo 3 5G is available at Rs 35,999 while OPPO Reno 8 Pro 5G is available at Rs 45,999 and these phones have the same SoC.

In short, MediaTek Dimensity 8100 is not a budget-centric SoC, its flagship processor.

By the way, even after having the 144Hz screen refresh rate, the phone doesn’t support the 90hz on BGMI, now this is not the processor issue, the thing is, the game developer needs to work with the chipset manufacturer to provide the extra features and in the case of MediaTek, they didn’t.

Most of the mobile game developers optimized their games for Qualcomm processors which we have seen in the past and the same is happening now too.

The 90hz can be enabled with a single OTA update but Redmi needs to work with MediaTek to provide the same, just as OPPO did with Reno 8 Series.

The Redmi K50i 5G runs on MIUI 13 based on Android 12, Redmi has also promised 2 years of OS updates and 3 years of security updates.

If you love MIUI then there is nothing to say anything. For those who are wondering, the device has 12 5G bands.

As of now, the BGMI on the Redmi K50i 5G only supports smooth at a high graphic which is kind of okay.

Overall, there won’t be any kind of problems in day-to-day life, the chipset is powerful enough to handle almost all tasks which also includes gaming too.

Cameras

This is where things change…

If you don’t want to read everything then here is the camera review in a single paragraph,

Don’t expect the cameras to be good, its decent cameras that will take good images under good lighting but when it comes to low light, they will suffer. The images will come out a bit saturated, in short, it’s average cameras.

The Redmi K50i 5G has 64MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro sensor while there is a 16MP selfie shooter on the front. The rear cameras can shoot videos at 1080p@30/60fps and 4k@30fps while the front can shoot at only 1080p@30fps.

By the way, no OIS support.

The problem is, that the front camera can only shoot videos at 1080p@30fps which is not a good thing because the chipset is capable to choose videos at 4k. I hope, Redmi provides the 4k or even 1080p@30fps with OTA updates.

Now, for videos, Redmi has added EIS which works fine.

When you shoot videos at 4k@30fps, the footage doesn’t come out stable but the same doesn’t happen with 1080p@60fps. So just stick to the 1080p@60fps for better videos.

The front camera can shoot videos at 1080p@30fps but the quality of the videos is not that great, there is also a dynamic range issue. So taking videos outdoors in the direct sunlight will be difficult.

The selfie also comes out a bit white, it feels that Redmi has pre-applied the beauty filter.

The rear 64MP sensor takes good images under good lighting, there is saturation going on but that won’t be a big issue because most budget smartphone does the same and users loves that extra colors.

Talking about 8MP ultra-wide lens, here I feel, the ultra-wide lens is just another addon like a 2MP sensor. The images come out with good dynamic range but most of the time, images turned out to be soft.

If you throw a good amount of light then, the ultra-wide lens will give good images but when there is no light or a little bit of light then the images won’t give you that 30k smartphone vibe.

In case you don’t like the images then try out Gcam whenever it’s available because the Redmi K50i 5G does have support for camera2api.

Overall, for the price of Rs 25999, the Redmi K50i 5G has decent cameras that will capture useable images but don’t expect more than that.

Audio

The Redmi K50i comes with dual speakers and they’re also good too. Again, you will be more than happy with its quality. The device has 2 × 2MIMO Carrier aggregation and two microphones, so there won’t be any issue with calling…

Now, guess what, the device has a 3.5mm audio jack but why?

Because this is a gaming smartphone, enjoy it if you’re using wired earphones.

Battery

The Redmi K50i 5G comes with a 5,080mAh battery with 67W wired fast charging support which will charge the device from 1% to 100% in 46 Minutes.

Just like everything else, the battery life depends on user by user.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Max is a battery-efficient processor which means the battery will last for a day. Also, that 67W fast charging helps a lot but keep in mind, always keep that charge and cable with you, other chargers won’t able to charge the Redmi K50i 5G at 67W.

Verdict

As I have said earlier, Redmi K50i 5G is a gaming smartphone that is available at a good price, so if you don’t want to spend more than 26k then this is a good option for gaming only but if you can spend up to 30k then just go with IQOO Neo 6 5G.

In short, Redmi K50i 5G is a gaming smartphone, don’t this for cameras…
