RealMe 9 4G Review with Pros and Cons: Stay away

RealMe 9 4G Review

RealMe 9 4G Review

The RealMe 9 is powered by Snapdragon 680 SoC and this processor supports cameras up to 64MP but RealMe has added a 108MP sensor on RealMe 9 4G, the fact that Snapdragon 680 doesn’t support a 108MP sensor.

This means, the phone doesn’t have 108MP, they’re labeling it as a 108MP sensor.

The RealMe 9 4G price in India starts from Rs 17,999 for 6GB RAM + 128GB storage while 8GB RAM + 128GB storage is available at Rs 18,999. The device comes with Meteor Black, Sunburst Gold, and Stargaze White color options and it will be available from 12 April 2022 at noon via Flipkart and RealMe.com/in.

RealMe 9 4G Review

No, RealMe 9 4G is not worth buying because it’s an overpriced smartphone while it doesn’t have a powerful processor, they’re also laying about the camera, no 5G support and yet, RealMe is charging Rs 17999 for this device which is not justifiable.

As I have said, don’t expect much from the camera department. 108MP label does help to market the smartphone and some users will buy this phone because of the 108MP sensor.

Snapdragon 680 is battery efficient processor, so the battery will last for a day, and that 33W charger will help a lot.

There are no stereo speakers too, it has a single bottom-firing speaker.

Overall, for the price of Rs 17999, RealMe 9 is not worth buying and it also doesn’t justify the price tag, RealMe should have used a better processor.

Display Quality

The RealMe 9 comes with a 6.40-inches 90Hz AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080×2400 pixels and 1000 nits of pick brightness. The back and frame are made out of plastic while there is no mention of what kind of display protection has been used on RealMe 9.

When smartphone companies provide a 90Hz AMOLED display under Rs 20000 they usually don’t give a brighter display but that’s not the case with RealMe 9. RealMe has given 1000 nits pick brightness which will help a lot while using smartphones outdoors.

The display is not that smooth, there are some frame drops and lag while using smartphones because of the Snapdragon 680 processor.

The processor is not powerful enough to handle the 90hz refresh rate, so that’s the reason, why you will see frame drop here and there.

Again, RealMe has added Widevine L1 support, so no issue while suing movies on OTT apps.

Overall, for the price of Rs 17999, the display is great but because of the processor, you won’t be able to enjoy the screen.

Performance

You can get Snapdragon 680 smartphones at 12k but RealMe has given the same SoC in 18k devices. The good thing is, that the RealMe 9 runs on RealMe UI 3.0 based on Android 12.

So if you’re a gamer who decided to buy this phone because of the 90hz AMOLED display then don’t because you will be disappointed with the performance, the Snapdragon 680 is a powerful processor and it doesn’t worth the 18k price tag.

You will see, frame drop and lag while playing games or even using smartphones in day-to-day life.

Also, the Snapdragon 680 doesn’t support 5G, so RealMe can’t add 5G to RealMe 9.

By the way, if you’re a gamer then you can consider the RealMe 9 SE 5G which has Snapdragon 778G processor keep in mind, that this phone doesn’t have good cameras but it’s great for gaming.

Overall, RealMe should have gone with Snapdragon 695 processor but they didn’t because they already have RealMe 9 Pro 5G at an 18kprice, so they can’t add the same processor at the same price.

Cameras

I have already told you that, the Snapdragon 680 doesn’t support a 108MP sensor, it only supports up to 64MP, so here, RealMe has just added a label to the stock camera and on the smartphone, nothing else.

The rear and front cameras can shoot videos at 1080p@30fps.

The video footage comes out shaky because there is no OIS, so if you’re running or walking and taking videos then there will be shakiness. Also, there is some issue with dynamic range, it’s a hit or miss kind of thing.

Sometimes, the video comes out good, with no problem with dynamic range but sometimes, it’s not even useable.

Also, like every single RealMe Smartphone, the colors pop out, and the sensor is trying to add a few extra colors which means, the red will look redder and the same for all the other colors.

Now coming to that 108MP sensor,

It takes some good images under good lighting, again, the color will come out saturated but the details are there. When it comes to low light, here I feel, RealMe is trying to overexpose the colors and in between, it is losing out on details.

Even that dedicated night mode doesn’t help much.

That 12MP ultra-wide sensor also takes some good images under good light but don’t expect the details to be too good because this is a smaller sensor and it looks like, RealMe didn’t optimize this sensor very well.

Also, don’t ever use an ultra-wide lens at night, the sensor will add lots of noise and it will overexpose the images, in the end, the images won’t be useable.

If you can, just ignore the 2MP macro sensor.

Talking about the 16MP selfie shooter,

The front cameras also take some good images but most o the images come out a bit whitish and a bit softer.

So if you’re that person who loves to use filters then now, you don’t have to because RealMe has pre-applied the filter for you.

Personally, I’m not a big fan of filters, I like natural colors.

Overall, RealMe needs to optimize that 108MP sensor along with others, so this can be called an 18k smartphone otherwise, this is just another smartphone that is launched at 18k that happens to come from RealMe and not from Samsung.

Audio Quality

The phone doesn’t have stereo speakers, RealMe has provided a single bottom-firing speaker.

The single speaker is loud enough to watch YouTube videos or even movies without earphones but still, RealMe should have provided stereo speakers.

As this is the price at 18k and the price will increase, I feel, it would have been better if the phone had a stereo speaker.

It also has a secondary noise cancellation microphone along with carrier aggregation which will help a lot in calls.

By the way, RealMe has also added a 3.5mm audio jack which is another plus point.

Overall, the audio and even call quality are good, with no complaints.

Battery Life

The RealMe 9 Pro 4G comes with a 5,000 mAh battery with 33W fast charging support. The 33W charger will take about 59 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%.

Overall, the battery will last for a day, the Snapdragon 680 SoC is power-efficient SoC and it will give better battery life.
