POCO M4 Pro Review

POCO M4 Pro 4G

We have another re-brand of the Redmi Phone, the newly launched POCO M4 Pro is a re-brand of the recently launched Redmi Note 11s (review)

Both of these phones have the same specifications, the only difference is the price, reset is the same.

POCO M4 Pro Price in India

The device is available in Laser Blue, Laser Black, and POCO Yellow color options while the phone will go for sale on 7th March 2022 via Flipkart at noon.

By the way, the launch price of the POCO M4 Pro is Rs 13,999 for 6GB Ram + 64GB storage, so if you wanted to buy POCO M4 Pro then order now because of the price will change after some time.

POCO M4 Pro Review

POCO M4 Pro is a re-brand of Redmi Note 11s but still, it’s worth buying because it’s available at a good price and it also has a powerful processor, AMOLED display, solid battery life, fast charging support, good build, and even Stereo Speakers, so overall, it is worth buying.

We also have another smartphone with MediaTek Helio G96 which is Infinix Note 11 and it’s priced at Rs 12,999 but this doesn’t have an AMOLED display, the rest of the specs are the same as POCO M4 Pro.

Fun fact, POCO M4 Pro 5G is also available at Rs 14,999 too. So you want a POCO phone with 5G and you’re okay with an LCD display then do consider the 5G variant or if you want AMOLED and you’re okay with 4G then POCO M4 Pro would be a good option.

So much confusion, right?

Display Quality

The POCO M4 Pro comes with a 6.43-inches 90Hz AMOLED display with a pick brightness of 1000 nits and 180Hz of the touch sampling rate.

On the rear side, it has plastic and the frame is also made out of plastic while the front is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The phone does have Widevine L1 support which means, you will be able to watch FHD+ content on OTT apps.

The good thing is, that POCO is gone with a 90Hz refresh rate which is an upgrade from the last generation.

Even the display panel is good, with no issue with viewing angle or using smartphone outdoor, that 1000 nits help a lot.

Also, even after having an AMOLED display, POCO didn’t add an in-display fingerprint sensor, they went with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Overall, POCO has done a good job with display and as of now, this is the only smartphone that has a 90Hz AMOLED display under 20k in India.

Performance

We have seen MediaTek helio G96 SoC in the recently launched Infinix Note 11s and this smartphone is priced at only Rs 12,999.

Now, the same SoC is present on POCO M4 Pro which is priced at Rs 14,999.

The POCO M4 Pro runs on MIUI 13 based on Android 12, still, no Android 12.

I’m not a big fan of MIUI but Xiaomi has done the job with MIUI 13, it’s not cleaner and simpler compared to MIUI 12 but still, it’s very heavy skin.

I will say it again, Xiaomi needs to re-design MIUI for budget smartphones like what Samsung did with OneUI. This way, the smartphone will work fine and the user didn’t need to use other skins on Xiaomi phones.

Here, I’m using Xiaomi because POCO is using their skin.

Now POCO has also used UFS 2.2 storage and LPDD4X RAM which will give better performance in day-to-day uses.

I think you already know, that POCO M4 Pro doesn’t have 5G support but why? because MediaTek Helio G96 doesn’t have 5G support.

Overall, you won’t face any kind of problems while playing games or using a smartphone in day-to-day life, MediaTek Helio G96 is a gaming processor, so nothing to worry about performance.

Cameras

POCO M4 Pro has 64MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and 2MP depth sensor on the rear side while there is a 16MP selfie shooter on the front.

Both the rear and front cameras can shoot videos up to 1080p@30fps.

POCO M4 Pro is priced at Rs 14,999 and POCO needed to justify the price tag, so they just added the bigger sensor.

Now, a bigger sensor doesn’t mean, better image quality, it’s good for marketing only.

If you’re thinking that a 64MP sensor will give better image quality then just stop there and let’s talk about the sensor.

Before you read further, forget about that 2MP sensor, they’re added for numbers, they won’t do much, you can see it as a showcase.

**above samples are from Redmi Note 11s, both phones have the same cameras.

That 64MP primary sensor takes some good images in daylight and as this is a bigger sensor, the details are also very good but when it comes to night, the sensor suffers a little bit.

It misses out on details, even the night mode doesn’t do much.

Now, I don’t recommend a smartphone on the promise of future updates, so if you’re okay with decent cameras and you wanted an AMOLED display & powerful gaming processor then do consider the POCO M4 Pro otherwise, Moto G51 5G is a better option.

The 8MP ultra-wide lens is kinda decent, it takes good images but it’s not the best.

One thing to note is don’t use the ultra-wide lens at night because the ultra-wide image won’t be useable.

By the way, an ultra-wide lens does take good images in daylight but the same can’t be said for the night.

Now, as I have said, just ignore the 2MP sensor.

That 16MP selfie shooter takes good images, now, the selfies are not that great but considering the price tag, POCO has done a good job.

That’s said, the front-facing camera is not that bad but it’s not the best too.

Overall, POCO needs to work a lot in the camera department. So yes, the POCO M4 Pro has a decent camera and it can get better with OTA updates but I can’t promise that because most of the time, mobile brands don’t deliver what they promise.

Audio Quality

The POCO M4 Pro has a stereo speaker which works fine, no issues there. Its dual speakers, so can’t complain much.

It also has a secondary noise cancellation microphone. The POCO M4 Pro does have carrier aggregation support.

As this is a budget smartphone, POCO has added a 3.5mm audio jack.

Overall, the sound quality is good and there are no issues with calls too.

Battery Life

The POCO M4 Pro comes with a 5,000 mAh battery with 33Wfast charging support. The 33W charger will take about 60 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%.

Overall, the battery should last for the day because of the processor but in the end, it depends on you, and how you use your smartphone every day.

You can also use the 33W charger, so even if the battery doesn’t last for a day then they will be charged in 60 minutes.

Verdict

POCO M4 Pro is a solid smartphone and it does worth the Rs 14,999 price tag but keep in mind, that the phone doesn’t have 5G, so if you’re okay with 4G then do consider the POCO M4 Pro otherwise, POCO also has POCO M4 Pro 5G (review) which is available at Rs 14,999.

I don’t know why POCO needs to launch a re-brand of the Redmi phone, I mean I get it they want to make money but still, this will only confuse people, nothing else.

As of now, POCO has re-brand the Redmi Note 11T 5G & Redmi Note 11s and for those who don’t know, it’s POCO M4 Pro 5G and POCO M4 Pro.

I’m not a big fan of MIUl, it has heavy skin and after a year or so, it gets slow.

So if I have to buy a smartphone under 15k then I would consider the Motorola G51 5G or Moto G31.

It’s all me, if you’re okay with MIUI then, you don’t have to go with Motorola…
