POCO M4 Pro 5G Review
POCO M4 Pro 5G Review

Why POCO Brand exists? only Xiaomi can answer that but till then let’s take look a at another re-brand of the Redmi phone which is the POCO M4 Pro 5G.

There is no difference between Redmi Note 11T 5G and POCO M4 Pro 5G, other than pricing. This means Redmi Note 11T 5G is dead because you can get the same smartphone at a cheaper price in form of POCO M4 Pro 5G.

Still, let’s review the newly launched POCO M4 Pro 5G and find out its Pros and Cons because the smartphone price starts from Rs 14,999.

POCO M4 Pro 5G Price in India

POCO M4 Pro 5G price in India starts from Rs 14,999 for 4GB of Ram and 64GB storage, 6GB Ram and 128GB storage variant is priced at Rs 15,999 while another 8GB of Ram and 128GB storage variant is priced at Rs 18,999 in India.

POCO M4 Pro 5G Review

Yes, POCO M4 Pro 5G is worth buying because it’s a well-priced smartphone while it also has 7 5G bands, Stereo Speakers, a good processor, solid battery life, and its POCO smartphone, so ads in the UI like Redmi Phones.

After the launch of POCO M4 Pro 5G, Redmi has discounted the 4GB Ram + 64GB storage variant, so now, you have to buy the 6GB + 64GB variant which will cost Rs 16,999

No, doubt, POCO M4 Pro 5G is a good smartphone but we also have the Motorola G51 5G which is also priced at Rs 14,999.

So I would recommend you to look at Moto G51 5G and then decide which one is for you.

Now, if you ask me, I would recommend you to go for Moto G51 5G because of the stock UI and smoother user experience.

Display Quality

POCO M4 Pro 5G Review 02

POCO M4 Pro 5G comes with a 90Hz 6.60-inches FHD+ LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Most of the smartphones under 15k are offering AMOLED display, so I feel, POCO could have done the same but as this is re-brand, can’t expect that.

There is nothing wrong with the LCD panel but this time, it looks like, the display quality has been compromised.

When you’re using a smartphone facing yourself, the display looks amazing, the colors are also good but when you see the display from the side or when tilt the display bit, the colors fade out a little bit.

Also, most of the LCD panels do the same thing but somehow, POCO M4 Pro 5G display viewing angle is not that great.

Now, normal users won’t notice this problem but if you’re that person who wants the best display then this is not the best smartphone to go with. Also, when you pay 15k, one should get a great display and not a good one.

By the way, the device has a plastic back and the phone frames are also made out of plastic.

Overall, the POCO M4 pro 5G has a good quality display and is not the best display under Rs 15,000. If you want an AMOLED display then you can also take look at Redmi Note 10S or consider the newly launched Motorola G31.

Cameras

POCO M4 Pro 5G Review 12

The POCO M4 Pro 5G Comes with a 50MP primary sensor + 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 16MP selfie shooter. The rear cameras can shoot videos up to [email protected] while the front can shoot up to [email protected]

The phone doesn’t have OIS support but it doesn’t have EIS which uses the software for video stabilization.

For the first time, POCO didn’t add 2MP+2MP sensors on the smartphone which is a good thing but also, they didn’t optimize the cameras as well.

The ultra-wide lens provides good images under the good lights but even after that, images come out a bit softer. While the images also, miss out on details too.

Coming to the primary sensor, POCO has used a Samsung sensor and this is a larger 50MP sensor but the thing is, POCO hasn’t taken advantage of the bigger sensor.

When there are good lights or let’s say when images are captured under the sunlight, the photos do come out good but when there is low light, the images lose out on details.

Also, somehow, the camera tries to boost the colors which could be good for some users but for those users who like natural colors will be disappointed with the camera performance.

I have seen the same image quality with budget smartphones and most of the users were happy but now the time has changed. So I feel, POCO needs to work on cameras because this is not a 10k smartphone.

Here comes the 16MP selfie shooter, hear me out…

I feel, that most people will like the front camera because it tries to whiten the images. So yes, you won’t get the natural colors, it will be oversaturated and soft.

Also, as I have said, POCO is charging extra money for the new chipset and that’s it.

Also, we’re facing a chip shortage. So this could be the reason why POCO is charging extra money.

Overall, POCO M4 Pro 5G has good cameras and it can be improved with the OTA update but it also depends on the POCO, whether they gonna do it or not.

Performance

POCO M4 Pro 5G Review 10

The POCO M4 Pro 5G is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 810 SoC and runs on MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 and it will get an Android 12 update very soon.

The new MediaTek Dimensity 810 5G is a good chipset and it can handle almost every single game without any problem. Now the problem with MIUI…

We all know, MIUI had tons of bugs and the same can be found on POCO M4 Pro 5G too.

Sometimes, switching between the apps, you will see the frame drop or the display will freeze for a micro-second.

This is not the problem with the chipset, it’s all because of the MIUI.

MIUI is a very heavy OS and it needs a powerful chipset to run smoothly but Xiaomi is putting the same OS on all the smartphones whether it’s 10k or 70k.

Here I feel, whether they should optimize the MIUI or launch another OS for just budget smartphones like what Samsung has done with OneUI.

By the way, the POCO M4 Pro 5G does have 5G support, and its supports around 7 5G bands which include n1, n3, n5, n8, n2, n40, and n78.

Overall, POCO M4 Pro 5G is a good smartphone for gaming but still, POCO needs to fix the MIUI for smooth performance. Also, there won’t be any huge problems while using this smartphone as a daily driver.

Audio Quality

POCO M4 Pro 5G Review 11

It has stereo speakers which is another plus point. The speakers are also good, there won’t be any issues while watching YouTube Videos or movies without earphones.

The device has a 3.5mm audio jack which means, you can use wired earphones. There is also an IR blaster present on the top which can use used to control AC, TV, or any other product.

The POCO M4 Pro 5G has two microphones which will help a lot in calling.

Overall, considering the price tag, POCO has done the best job in the audio department.

Battery Life

The POCO M4 Pro 5G comes with a 5,000 mAh battery with 33W fast charging support and yes, a 33W charger is supplied in the box.

As I have said many times, the battery life depends on users by users. If the user is playing games for five to six hours then he or she needs to charge the device two times a day otherwise, the device will last for a day without any issue.

Verdict

POCO M4 Pro 5G Review 13

POCO needs to launch new smartphones and not re-brand of Redmi Phones I not saying, Re-brand is a bad thing but they can’t just launch the same smartphone with a different name.

If we didn’t have the Redmi Note 11T 5G (review) then it makes sense to launch POCO M4 Pro 5G but in this case, we already have the Redmi Note 11T Pro, so why, POCO M4 Pro 5G?.

Nevertheless, POCO M4 Pro 5G is a good smartphone because it’s cheaper compared to Redmi Note 11T 5G.

Still, I feel, it’s not the best smartphone, take look at this list for more options under Rs 15,000.

Having most of the features and specifications, the Mediatek-fueled POCO M4 Pro 5G is a brilliant smartphone.
