Motorola Edge 20 Review After 30 Days

After using Motorola Edge 20 5G for 30 days, I feel, Motorola has done a fabulous job with the device. The stock UI is a key part of the phone and that 144Hz takes it to another level. The Snapdragon 778 also perform great in all department and it has a practical camera setup that provides the best images.

In short, considering the price tag, as of now, Motorola Edge 20 is one of the best smartphones to consider.

Battery Life

I was a bit worried about the battery life because it only has a 4,000 mAh battery but the battery life turned out very good. In short, the Moto Edge 20 will last for one full day unless you continuously play games for six or seven hours.

Also, it has 30W fast charging support and it does help when needed the most. Still, I would love to see, a 5,000 mAh battery.

Design

I can complain about the battery size but look at the design and that 7 mm body, it looks amazing, Motorola has done a fantastic job with weight balance.

It’s all because of the plastic back, for those who are wondering, used plastic has a matt finish, and it’s good quality plastic, so it won’t give you a cheap quality vibe.

Talking about the frame, it’s made out of metal. I would have loved to see, a 3.5mm Audio jack but as we have noticed, most mid-budget smartphone doesn’t have the audio jack.

Audio Quality

The only complaint I have is, the speaker, it should have been better if Moto had added Stereo Spakeer but here, they did some cost-cutting.

Now, a single speaker is not that bad but it’s also not that great, it’s an average speaker.

Let me give you an example, if you’re in a crowded place and if you want to watch a YouTube video then you have to use earphones otherwise, you won’t able to hear the audio.

By the way, there won’t be any kind of problem while taking calls on Moto Edge 20 as the phone has three microphones which will ensure everything.

Display Quality

The Moto Edge 20 comes with a 6.70-inches 144Hz 10bit OLED display with a 576Hz touch sampling rate.

I have already said many things about the display in the review and it’s the same here.

The Moto edge 20 has the best display quality under Rs 30,000 price in India, no doubt about that. Also, that 144Hz refresh rate is beyond amazing.

By the way, Moto Edge 20 does have Widevine L1 support which means, you will be able to stream FHD+ content on the OTT Platform. For some reason, I wasn’t able to watch movies or TV shows at FHD+ resolution on Prime Video.

Performance

Coming to performance, the Motorola Edge 20 5G is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G and I didn’t expect too much from this chip but, it outperform my expectation.

Whether you want to play games or use social media, everything will work like butter. On top of that, the phone is running on Android 11 and it’s a clean UI, no ads, no bloatware, and no pre-installed apps.

Motorola has done a great job with UI, it’s not like what Micromax doing with its stock UI.

By the way, this stock UI but Motorola has provided all the features that you will use. For example, gaming mode, screen recording, Gestures, and many more.

Also, for those who are wondering, the Moto Edge 20 does have carrier aggregation support and as you already know, it has eleven 5G bands.

Other Features

Coming to small things, the haptic motor is decent but considering the price tag, one should not complain.

The Motorola Edge 20 has NFC support, three microphones, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a dedicated Google Assistant key, and a Type-C to C cable for charging.

Cameras

Here comes thing big part, Cameras, let’s talk about it.

Moto Edge 20 comes with 108MP primary sensor, 16MP ultra-wide, and 3X 8MP telephoto lens while there is a 32MP selfie shooter. The rear cameras can shoot videos up to 4k@30fps while the front can shoot up to 1080p@30fps.

The 8MP telephoto lens does have OIS support but that 108MP primary sensor doesn’t have the OIS support.

So when you shoot videos, the footage will come out shaky. Motorola does have provided EIS support but it’s all software that I have tested and it works the fine.

One thing I like about Moto Edge 20 Cameras is, the way they produce the colors. Most of the smartphones around this price range try to overexpose the color or sometimes, it softens the image.

Now, that’s not the case with Moto Edge 20. The phone produces natural colors and has lots of details in it. The same can be said for the front camera too.

I have already said a lot about cameras in the review but still, The Moto Edge 20 5G has one of the best camera implementations under the 30k price range in India.

If Moto had added OIS then, it would have been the best but hey, can’t expect everything. Also, Motorola is planning to launch Motorola Edge Pro in India, so something needs to save for the Pro version too.

108MP Mode

Overall, The Motorola Edge 5G does justify the Rs 29,999 price tag, it’s not an overpriced smartphone. So, yes I do recommend this phone to everyone over the OnePlus Nord 2 5G (review) or any other smartphone under the 30k price range.

The key feature of this phone is stock UI. So if you want clean and smooth and secured UI then you should consider the Moto Edge 20 5G.
