Motorola Edge 20 Display Quality
The Moto Edge 20 comes with a 6.70-inches 144Hz 10bit OLED display with a 576Hz touch sampling rate. This is not a flagship smartphone, just read the specs again, I have never seen this kind of display under the Rs 30000 price tag.
The 144Hz screen works fine whether you want to play games or scroll through apps. Also, I haven’t noticed a frame drop while using the 144Hz option. It seems, that Snapdragon 778G SoC can handle the 144Hz refresh rate without any problem.

Coming to display protection, Motorola didn’t say anything about the front glass while there is plastic on the rear side I come to know, that the phone has Corning Gorilla Glass 3. A good thing is, that the device has a metal frame which is a plus point.
The backside does have plastic but it is good quality plastic and I don’t think you will face any problem and also, in the end, everyone will use a cover case.
By the way, Moto Edge 20 does have Widevine L1 support which means, you will be able to stream FHD+ content on the OTT Platform. For some reason, I wasn’t able to watch movies or TV shows at FHD+ resolution on Prime Video.
The Moto Edge 20 is the slimmest smartphone available under the 30k price tag, I mean, it’s beauty. I think you will love the design, look and feel.
Now, the plus point of Moto Edge 20 is, of course, a 144Hz refresh rate along with a 576Hz touch sampling rate. Also, this is a 10bit HDR+ compatible screen.
Overall, I feel, this phone has the best display quality under the 30k price tag even if you go above 40k, there are no phones with this kind of feature.
Motorola Edge 20 Performance
Motorola Edge 20 is the first phone to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G processor in India. The chipset is built on 6nm and it has Adreno 642L GPU while there is an Octa-core (1×2.4 GHz Kryo 670 Prime & 3×2.2 GHz Kryo 670 Gold & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo 670 Silver) CPU inside.
It’s running on Android 11 with Moto Feature but it’s close to stock Android. Motorola has promised two years of Android OS updates and three years of security updates.
This means Motorola Edge 20 will get updates up to Android 13.
I have played BGMI, the game can be played at HRD with Ultra frame rate and smooth at extreme frame rate.

All in all, there won’t be any kind of problem while playing games or using a smartphone. The Snapdragon 778G SoC will provide the best possible performance.
Now, the phone does have 5G and this true 5G phone because it features eleven 5G bands which include 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 28, 38, 41, 66, 77, and 78.
This means, there won’t be any kind of problem when 5G launches in India, the phone will be able to use the 5G network.
For those who are wondering, Snapdragon 778G SoC is almost the same as Mediatek’s dimensity 1200 SoC.
In short, if you wanted a powerful smartphone under 30k then you can consider Moto Edge 20 because it has a powerful processor and clean Android experience.
Motorola Edge 20 Cameras
Moto Edge 20 comes with 108MP primary sensor, 16MP ultra-wide, and 3X 8MP telephoto lens while there is a 32MP selfie shooter. The rear cameras can shoot videos up to [email protected] while the front can shoot up to [email protected]
By the way, 8MP telephoto does have OIS support which good thing, and Motorola has enabled camera2Api which means, you will be able to use Gcam.
One good thing Motorola has done is adding an 8MP telephoto lens instant of 2MP+2MP depth and macro sensor.
If you shoot videos at [email protected] then the footage will be shaky, so I would recommend the [email protected] for video recording.
Now that 108MP capture good images under good lighting condition as well as under low lights.
Now, if you’re that person who loves nature photography then you will love the Moto Edge 20 images because the sensor tries to provide as natural images as it can.
You can also change the brightness or use beauty mode if you’re not into natural colours.
*Images uploaded above is optimized for the web, you can click here to see, original photos shot with Motorola Edge 20, which I have uploaded to the Gdrive.
Motorola has also added night mode into the camera app and it also works fine but not the best, Motorola needs to work on the night mode as well as camera apps. The stock camera app is outdated and needs a new interface.
Coming to 16MP ultra-wide, this sensor also takes a good image but don’t try to use the ultra-wide lens at night because at night, the images will turn out soften and this is where it will lose out on details. At night, always go with the primary sensor.
The phone also has an 8MP telephoto lens which is a plus point and it is fine most of the time. The sensor can do 3X optical zoom and 30X digital zoom.
Talking about the 32MP selfie shooter, here I feel, Motorola has a good job. The image does come out very well. The stock camera app also has some good filters that you can try for selfies.
Overall, considering the price tag, Moto Edge 20 has a good camera setup and you won’t be disappointed with the cameras.
Motorola Edge 20 Battery Life
The phone has a 7mm body and that’s why it only has a 4,000 mAh battery with support for 30W wired fast charging support. Motorola has provided type-C to type-C cable for charging which is a plus point.
So if you’re a heavy user then you will need to charge Moto Edge 20 twice a day but if you’re a normal user then the phone will easily last for a day.
If you want good looking smartphone then you have to compromise in battery size too.
Motorola Edge 20 Audio Quality
Here I feel, Motorola should have gone with Stereo speakers. The single bottom-firing speaker is loud enough but it’s not as good as Stereo speakers.
The Moto Edge 20 does have a secondary noise cancellation microphone and carrier aggregation support.
The Single speaker is not that bad, you will be able to hear the sound even if you’re public place, the audio will be listenable.
Fun fact, the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion has a 3.5mm audio jack while Moto Edge 20 doesn’t have an audio jack which means, you have to either use an audio dongle or go for TWS earbuds.
If Not Motorola Edge 20? Alternatives
For some reason, if you don’t want to buy Motorola Edge 20 then you can also take look at OnePlus Nord 2 5G, POCO F3 GT 5G, Mi 11X, IQOO 7, RealMe X7 Max 5G or even OPPO Reno 6 5G.
If I have to choose one phone for myself then I would go for Moto Edge 20 because of its clean UI and display quality.
OnePlus was a good smartphone brand but after the merger with OPPO, I can’t trust OnePlus, no one knows, what they will do next?
Also, I don’t like MIUI or even RealMe UI. So only one brand is left which is Motorola and now they have Motorola Edge Series.
For me, Moto Edge 20 is a good option and it ticks mark all the boxes, for you, it could different?

The specs say that the 8MP Telephoto has OIS… Isn’t it correct? How will this compare to Galaxy A52? How strong is the haptic motor on the phone?
Does 108MP primary sensor has OIS ?
No, 108MP doesn’t have OIS but an 8MP telephoto lens has
Your review is very neat, detailed and answered so many questions that arise in our mind. I have few doubts yet. I will write here, please help.
1) Is black colour not available for India?
2) Does this phone has notification LED for messages/missed calls?
3) Do you think over use of Type C port for both charging and for earphone usage will damage the port and makes me visit service centre quite early?
Your help will be appreciated. Thank you.
NO, black colour is not available in India. Also, there is no LED light on the device. Coming to the last question, if you plug and unplug very often let’s say, 10 or 20 times a day then it will damage the Type-C port in long term.
Thank you so much.
Hello Rahul,
In a durability test video, I have seen Moto Edge 20 having plastic frame. They use knife and its paint came off. Company website claims it as “aluminium alloy”. What do you think about it?
Here is the link:
https://youtu.be/nYbr_8yl29o
I have moto Edge 20 and I’m using this device for a while now but I haven’t used a knife on it. Also, it doesn’t feel like plastic from the outside, so I can’t confirm whether it’s plastic or aluminium. By the way, I’m using the retail unit.
Sorry for the late reply…
