Motorola G62 5G Review with Pros and Cons – Kinda Same

Motorola G62 5G Review

Motorola G62 5G Review

Motorola is on the roll these days as they’re launching one or two smartphones every month, now that’s not the problem, the problem is, they’re launching new smartphones with one or two changes. So let’s find out in this Motorola G62 5G review whether you should spend Rs 17999 or not.

Motorola G62 5G Price in India

The Motorola G62 5G price in India starts from Rs 17,999 for 6GB of Ram and 128Gb storage while another 8GB of Ram and 128GB storage variant is priced at Rs 19,999. The device is available in Midnight Grey and Frosted Blue color options and it will be available from 19th August 2022 via Flipkart at noon.

For a limited time, you can get Rs 1500 off on HDFC Bank Credit Cards.

Motorola G62 5G Review

Yes, Motorola G62 5G is worth buying because it has almost everything that users are looking for in a budget smartphone that said, the device has its flows, like the cameras are not that great, only 20W charging support, and LCD display which doesn’t make any sense on Rs 17999 smartphone.

Yes, the device does have a 120hz 6.50-inches panel but I feel, that when the smartphone is priced above 15k, it should have an AMOLED panel, even a 90Hz refresh would have been a good option.

The Snapdragon 695 is a well-tested processor, it’s not made for heavy gaming but for day-to-day usage, and you won’t face any problems.

The cameras are not that great, images do come out good under low light but the sensor suffers a lot in low lights.

Moto G62 5G is priced at Rs 18k and yet, it only has 20W charging support which is not justifiable at all.

Overall, if you’re okay with an LCD display, and decent cameras then yes, the Motorola G62 5G is the best option for you otherwise, it’s a decent smartphone at a decent price for casual users.

Display

Motorola was doing soo well until they decided to remove the AMOLED panel from the Moto G62 5G. Now, there are no problems with LCD panels but when the company priced their smartphone at 18k, they need to think about the users too.

Motorola sold most of their smartphone online and it’s really hard to manipulate users compared to the offline market.

In short, Motorola needs to provide an AMOLED panel above 15k, like other brands.

By the way, the Motorola G62 5G comes with a 6.50-inches 120Hz LED panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and 405 PPI density. Motorola didn’t say anything about what kind of glass they used on the front side but the frame and back are made out of plastic.

The device has all the features like Camera2Api, Widevine L1, and even Carrier aggregation support.

The screen brightness would have been a bit better, it’s not that bad but still, for the price of Rs 17999, it could have been a bit better.

Also, as this device has an LED panel, Motorola has added a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Overall, for the price of Rs 17,999, The display could have been better but again, it’s not that bad too.

Cameras

We have seen this same camera setup on Motorola G71 and yet, Motorola didn’t change a bit.

The Motorola G62 5G has 50MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and 2MP macro sensor while there is a 16MP front camera. The rear cameras can shoot videos at 1080p@30/60fps while the front can shoot at 1080p@30fps.

Now, we all know that Snapdragon 695 SoC doesn’t have support for 4K, so no matter what Motorola does, they can’t add 4K video recording unless they have gone with a different processor.

By the way, the device doesn’t have OIS support, it relies on EIS.

The 50MP primary sensor takes some good images under good lighting, there is no issue with dynamic range too. The images do have that softness or sharpness, in short, Motorola has worked on day photography.

Comes to the night images,

This is where you will feel disappointed because most of the night images have dynamic range issues, images are soft and even sharper. In short, night images are not useable at all.

Even with night mode ON, the images come out the same.

Now that, 8MP ultra-wide also captures the same colors as the primary sensor but as this is an 8MP sensor, the details are not the same.

Again the same thing, don’t use the ultra-wide lens at night.

Here comes the 2MP macro which is added for the showcase.

Coming back to 16MP front cameras, I had huge hope for the front camera but it didn’t live up to it.

The front sensor tries to add sharpness, and softness and try to make your skin a bit white. Again, it also has the same dynamic range issue, the sensor tries to overexpose the background too much and in between, it loses out details.

Overall, you will be disappointed with the cameras because this is an 18k smartphone.

The cameras are not that bad but it also doesn’t justify the 18k price tag, you can call this a 13k camera on an 18k smartphone.

Here, are Camera Samples of Motorola G62 5G Google Drive Link.

Performance

The Motorola G62 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC and runs on Android 12. Now, Motorola has promised one year of OS updates and three years of security updates.

The phone does come with Facebook pre-install other than that, I didn’t find any third-party apps. Also, no ads in the UI.

Most Android brands are promising 2 OS updates but Motorola has promised only 1 OS update which is not fair because Indian users keep the smartphone for more than 3 years and not getting Android 14 is not a good thing.

For those who don’t know, Motorola G62 5G global version has the Snapdragon 480+ processor while Motorola has provided the Snapdragon 695 in the Indian variant.

The device also has 10 5G bands, so there is nothing to worry about it.

By the way, don’t expect to play BGMI or even COD Mobile at the extreme graphics, the Snapdragon 695 is a good SoC but it’s not a gaming processor, it good processor for day-to-day use.

Overall, there won’t be any kind of issue while using the smartphone in day-to-day life and again, as I have said, Motorola should have gone with a different processor.

Audio

Get ready because you’re about to hear something new,

Yes, after a long time, Motorola has decided to add the stereo speakers and yes, it works great.

It also has a secondary noise cancellation microphone which will help a lot in calling too. Also, it does have carrier aggregation support.

Now, surprising thing is, that Motorola has added a 3.5mm audio jack which is kind of odd…

Overall, the speaker quality is great and there is no issue with the call quality too.

Battery Life

The Motorola G62 5G comes with a 5,000 mAh battery with 20W charging support.

This is a big letdown because we have tons of smartphones with 30W and even 50W fast charging below 20k and here comes the Motorola with only 20W charging support.

Overall, the battery will last for a day, the Snapdragon 695 SoC is power-efficient and will give better battery life.

Of course, if you’re a heavy user then the battery won’t last for a day but if you’re a normal user then the battery should last for more than a day.

I have used quite of few Motorola smartphones and one thing is very clear, the budget Moto phones don’t have good cameras, so you have to sacrifice the cameras to get that smooth Android experience.
