Vivo V17 Pro Review

We have already discussed Vivo V17 Pro in the previous article and yes still, it’s an overpriced smartphone with the old chipset. Like every smartphone, Vivo V17 Pro also has its Pros and Cons and this is what we are about to find out.

The smartphone comes with a Quad rear camera setup and it’s not a 64 MP setup, it has Sony IMX586 sensor along with other regular sensors.

So let’s dive into this newly launched phone.

Design

As I have said in many articles, the design is a personal preference. I don’t like this design at all, I mean a single pop-up camera setup still, looks fine but a dual pop-up camera look kind of ugly.

Talking about the back side, Vivo has used gorilla glass 5 and it’s looking great apart from that camera setup, so yes camera implementation on the rear side is not looking very good, and considering the price tag, Vivo hasn’t done it very well.

On the top side, there is a dual pop-up selfie camera setup and a 3.5 mm audio jack along with a secondary noise cancellation mic.

While on the bottom, there is a type-C charging port, SIM tray (hybrid SIM, no SD-card slot), and a speaker grill. On the left side, there are volume rockers and power ON/OFF keys while on the right side, the Jovi button functions key like Bixby the key.

So if you want to buy Vivo V17 Pro then you should watch some unboxing videos for this device and you will get a clear idea about the design.

Built Quality

For the first time, Vivo has used Xensation for the front penal which means there is a gorilla glass 5 protection on the rear side and Xensation 3D glass protection on the front side. As per Vivo, Xensation will give you better display protection than Gorilla glass 5. By the way, this is what Xensation has mentioned on their website,

Key-Benefits of Xensation

  • Outstanding results in set drop performance for very high survival likelihood after smartphone drops
  • Extremely high impact and bending strength for thinner, sleeker, and more touch-sensitive solutions
  • High scratch and wear resistance for superior aesthetic appeal, durability, strength, and reliability even after surface damage
  • Thermal bending at similar temperatures to soda-lime glass
  • Manifold combinations of CS and DoL are possible

Given about Key-benefits is only for marketing and may not happen in real life, so don’t trust those benefits 100%. By the way, there is no doubt, that the built quality is great, and yes it does feel premium in hand, so thump up for that.

Performance

As I have said, the Vivo V17 Pro is powered by an 11 nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor with Adreno 612 GPU and Kryo 460 CPU, it’s running on Funouch 9 based on Android 9.0 (Pie). We have already seen this processor on Redmi Note 7 Pro, and Vivo V15 Pro, and both device has performed well in gaming as well as in day-to-day uses.

So there is no doubt that Snapdragon 675 is the best processor for budget smartphones but if a company is launched the smartphone at 30k and gives a Snapdragon 675 soc then it’s not worth it. I mean companies like Xiaomi have provided this chipset below 15k.

Geekbench Score:

A fun fact, Vivo has used this same chipset on the last generation Vivo V15 Pro, so it’s the same but the price is high. So yes if you want to play games like PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds), Asphalt 9 legends, Modern Combat 5, or Garena Free Fire, yes that Snapdragon 675 can handle all those games, and you won’t get any kind of problem while playing those games.

Now if you want to buy a Vivo phone and you can also invest 30k for Snapdragon 675 then just open the Flipkart website and brad one right now.

Cameras

The Vivo V17 Pro comes with a quad-camera setup featuring a 48-megapixel primary (f/1.8), an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with an F/2.2 aperture, a 13-megapixel telephoto lens with an F/2.5 aperture, and 2-megapixel depth sensor with an F/2.4 aperture. On the front side, it has a 32-megapixel sensor with an F/2.0 aperture and 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with an F/2.2 aperture.

Now there is no doubt, that Vivo V17 Pro has a good camera setup. By the way, it also has a pop-up dual selfie camera setup which means that a dual camera setup will give great camera quality.

As we all know Vivo and OPPO are well known for their selfie cameras then the rear camera and this is what Vivo V17 Pro has to offer. It has a wonderful selfie camera setup and I feel, it has a better selfie camera setup than the Redmi K20 pro. Now when it comes to rear camera setup, this is where the Vivo V17 pro will give you average quality.

By the way, Vivo V17 pro can shoot video up to 2160p@30fps via rear cameras, and there is any kind, of strobilation which means videos will be shaky. On the other side, the front camera can record video at 1080p@30fps. So yes, it’s not a video-centric phone, it’s a selfie-centric phone.

I said average because when a company launches a phone at 30k then they must provide cameras like 30k. So if you are looking for the best camera phone under 30k then I won’t recommend this phone, an instant of that, you can go with Redmi K20 Pro or OnePlus 7.

I just wanted to add, that the camera is good on this device but it doesn’t worth the Rs 29,99 price tag, by the way, the choice is all yours if you want to pay 30k for Vivo V17 Pro.

Battery Life

The smartphone has a 4,100 mAh non-removable battery with 18W fast charging support and yes it has a Type-C port.

Usually, I don’t say many things about battery life because it depends on your daily uses. Overall, the battery will last all day and if in case you consume all the batteries then there is also an 18W fast charger, use it.

Note Battery life will depend on your daily uses like what kind of games you are playing, how much time you spend on mobile phones etc.

Price and Availability

As of now, the Vivo V17 Pro is available in Midnight Ocean and Glacier Ice color options. If you want to buy Vivo V17 Pro, the phone is sold via Amazon and Flipkart websites and it will go for sale on 29th September 2019 at noon.

Conclusion

Let’s sum up all those stuff, the Vivo V17 Pro has Snapdragon 675 processor, a 4,100 mAh battery with 18W fast charging support, a Quad camera setup along with a dual selfie setup, a 6.44-inches AMOLED display with new Xensation protection, in-display fingerprint sensor.

Buy From Flipkart

Yes, you are getting all those things for only 30k, so if you want to waste ten thousand then Vivo V117 Pro is a great phone or you can also save 10k and buy Redmi 20 or RealMe XT or RealMe X.

By the way, Redmi Note 8 series is also coming to India very soon, so if you can wait for Redmi Note 8 series and then wait for it, you will get better specifications at a budget price range.
