Samsung Galaxy A23 5G Review

No, the Samsung Galaxy A23 5G is not worth buying at Rs 22,999 price tag, its too pricey for what Samsung is offering, the device has Average cameras, plastic build, Decent performance, and no charger in the box which is not acceptable at 23k price tag because we have tons of better option, so it doesn’t make any sense to pay 23k for just Samsung logo.

Display

The Galaxy A23 5G comes with a 6.60-inches PLS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2408 pixels along with widevine L1 support. The device has a plastic back, plastic frame, and Gorilla Glass 5 on the front.

Now, there is nothing wrong with LCD display but the thing is, this is a 23k smartphone, so it doesn’t make any sense to pay this amount of money for the LCD panel.

The reason is very simple, we have phones like RealMe 10 Pro Plus, Redmi Note 12 Pro, Motorola G82, and many other that offers the AMOLED panel, so getting LCD at 23k is not worth it.

Along with that, Galaxy A23 5G has a waterdrop notch and huge bezels all around it. This looks like a 2016 smartphone rather than a 2023 one.

Because of the LCD panel, Samsung has used the side-mounted fingerprint scanner which works fine.

Overall, yes, the display could have been better but as this is a Samsung device, you can’t ask for more, so if you wanted to buy a Samsung smartphone and if your budget is 23k then do consider it otherwise, save money.

Performance

We have seen Snapgradon 695 SoC on a smartphone worth Rs 15000 and it is a well-made processor, so you won’t face any kind of problem in day-to-day usage.

Now, if you’re a gamer who wanted the best gaming smartphone at 23k then kindly stay away from this device as it’s not made for heavy games, although it’s a good option for moderate gaming.

The device runs on OneUI 4.1 based on Android 12 while Samsung has promised 2 years of OS updates and 4 years of security updates which means, the Galaxy A23 5G will get updates up to Android 14.

Now, the OneUI is an excellent Android Skin, and it’s one the best right now, so there won’t be any kind of problems while using it in day-to-day life.

Samsung has also added Knox Security which simply means, this is a more secure device. So doing any sort of payment or anything else will secure and there is less chance of getting hacked.

Cameras

The device only has single rear cameras, I mean, it does have 4 cameras on the back but when it comes to real-life usage, only the primary sensor will be useable.

The Galaxy A23 5G has 50MP primary sensor, 5MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth on the rear while there is an 8MP selfie shooter on the front. Both the rear and front can shoot videos at 1080p@30fps.

The ultra-wide lens always captures more areas, so it makes more sense to use a bigger sensor but Samsung is like, we don’t care, take it or leave it, we will add 5MP ultra-wide lens.

The moral of the story is, if there is enough light then you will get good images but if you’re taking ultra-wide shots at night then the images won’t be postable on social media.

Also, the details are also not good because of the smaller sensor size.

The 2MP+2MP sensor is added for showcase, so let’s leave it.

The 50MP primary sensor has OIS which works fine, it can be improved further because it doesn’t work well in videos.

Again, the primary sensors take useable images, it doesn’t take extraordinary images or don’t think that, as this is a 23k smartphone, the cameras will be good because it’s not.

Let’s put it this way, the primary sensor takes social media-ready images which means, there is no need to edit anything, just take the image and post the same on social media because most of the images come out a bit white and saturated.

The 8MP front camera is simply trash, it could have been better but it’s not, again the same, it adds a bit of extra white colors and softeners which is not good for a 23k smartphone.

The Galaxy A23 5G camera would have been the best if it was launched at 14k but as this is a 23k device, I have to review it as the price tag.

By the way, if you’re from the USA then Galaxy A23 5G is a good option as you don’t have many budget smartphone options like India.

Concluding everything from price to features, the Galaxy A23 5G is not value for money device, it’s simply for Samsung fanboys.

Audio

Can you believe this is a 23k smartphone and yet, it only has a single speaker? I mean, If you think for a second and see the Samsung logo then it is kind of believable.

Now, the single speaker is loud but it’s not as good as the stereo speaker setup. The device does have a 3.5mm Audio jack which is a good add-on.

Also, it does have Carrier Aggregation.

Battery Life

You guessed it right, there is no charger in the Box, you will have to buy a 25W charger separately. The device has a 5,000mAh battery which supports 25W charging.

The battery will last for the day because of the Snapdragon 695 SoC but if you’re a heavy user then you will have to charge this device twice a day.

Summary

The Galaxy A23 5G could have been the best device but Samsung launched it at Rs 22,999 which is not a good price for what they’re offering, it’s an overpriced smartphone with the Samsung logo on the back.
