We use to get the Redmi Note Pro Plus variant at around Rs 20000 and now the same has shifted to Rs 30000. A big jump, so let’s find out whether it’s worth it or not.

Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G Price in India

The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G price in India starts from Rs 29,999 for 8GB of Ram and 256GB storage while the 12GB of Ram and 256GB Storage variant is priced at Rs 32,999.

The device is available in Obsidian Black, Arctic White, and Iceberg Blue color options while it will go for sale on 11th January 2023 via Flipkart and Mi.com/in at noon.

For a Limited time, you can get an instant Rs 3000 discount on an ICICI bank Card.

Now let’s dive into the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G Review.

Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G Review

Yes, the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G is worth buying because it has whopping 120w fast charging, well optimized 200MP camera setup, a smooth 120Hz AMOLED panel, a bright display, and even 10 5G Bands. However, the device is pricey compared to its competition.

Now, when your budget is Rs 30000, you have tons of options like Nothing Phone 1, IQOO Neo 6 5G, and even Motorola Edge 30 5G. So it’s a bit hard to pick Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G over these devices unless and until you’re a fan of Redmi.

One more thing, don’t just see the 200MP camera sensor, now, the sensor is good but it won’t give you extraordinary images.

Concluding everything from price to feature, Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G could have been the best-value for-money device at Rs 24999 but at Rs 29,999, it’s hard to recommend.

Display

The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G comes with a 120Hz 6.67-inches AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and pick a brightness of 900nits. This is a 10-bit panel and 240Hz Touch Sampling Rate while it also has the Wide Vine L1 Support.

The 900nits brightness is good enough for day-to-day usage, you won’t face any kind of problem while using the smartphone under sunlight.

To protect the front side, Redmi is using the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The rear side has glass but Redmi didn’t mention what kind of glass they used while the frames are made from plastic.

Here, I do feel, Redmi should have gone with aluminum or Metal frames as Plastic can break if the smartphone is dropped from the table.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is not a very powerful SoC and it will handle the 120Hz refresh rate without any problem.

All in all, The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus has an excellent display and it does justify the Rs 29,999 price tag.

Performance

Recently launched RealMe 10 Pro Plus 5G also had the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor and Redmi has also used the same SoC in Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is not made for heavy games, so if you’re thinking to buy Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus for gaming then don’t because, after 30 or even 45 minutes of gaming, you will see frame drops and lags.

In short, don’t buy Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G to play games like COD Mobile, PUBG New State, or even Apex Legends. Now, it’s not like these games won’t run but if you play for a long time then you will feel disappointed with your purchase.

By the way, Redmi has also added the Vapor Chamber Cooling Technology which means, the phone won’t get hot. Now, the real test of Vapor Chamber Cooling Technology will be in summer, so let’s wait.

The phone also has 10 5G Bands which include the SA; n1, n3, n5, n8, n28a, n38,
n40, n41, n77, and 78 NSA; n38, n40, n41, n77, and n78. In short, you will be able to take advantage of 5G all over India.

To put it simply, Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G is a solid smartphone for day-to-day usage but it’s not made for heavy gaming.

Software

Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G runs on MIUI 13 based on Android 12. Redmi has promised 2 Years of OS Updates and 4 Years of Security Updates, so this device will get OS Updates up to Android 14.

The catch is,

The device runs on Android 12 and Android 13 has been out for months. Now, what Redmi did is, delayed the Android 13 update, so they don’t have to update the device up to Android 15.

Redmi has also said that MIUI 14 based on Android 13 is ready and it should be out within a month, so you see what Redmi did…

By the way, Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G comes with hall lot of Bloatware which you can uninstall but you will have to manually uninstall all the third-party apps which is not a good experience even after paying the Rs 29,999.

The phone has ads in the UI which you can disable from the settings but the problem is every single user won’t know about this, so they will continue using the device as it is.

Overall, MIUI 13 is the same as all the other Redmi Phones, there is nothing new to talk about.

Cameras

200MP is a new trend in 2023, so get ready to see a 200MP sensor even in Rs 15000 smartphones.

The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G has a 200MP primary sensor (OIS), 8MP ultra-wide lens, and 2MP macro sensor while there is a 16MP selfie shooter on the front.

The rear camera can shoot videos at 4k@30fps and 1080p@30/60fps while the front can shoot at 1080p@30/60fps.

Now, the primary sensor has OIS which means, the videos will come out stable but don’t shoot videos in 4K because OIS doesn’t work well, so for stable videos, shoot videos at 1080p.

Related: Best Smartphones Under Rs 50,000

The front camera doesn’t have the OIS but it does have the EIS which does work. By the way, the front camera has an issue with dynamic range,

For example, if you’re taking videos and there is light behind you then the sensor will have a hard time fixing the background. Now, this can be easily fixed with an OTA update, so let’s see when Redmi fixes this problem.

Talking about the 200MP sensor,

It takes the best images under daylight, no issue with dynamic range or even background blur. Also, as this is a Redmi smartphone, it does add a little bit of extra color, it’s not too much but yes, the human skin tone will be a bit saturated.

So yes, you will be impressed with the primary sensor. Here, Redmi has worked on the 200MP sensor and it has been well-optimized.

Now, the same doesn’t reflect well under low light, the images come out soft and for some reason, the images have a bit of extra noise. The good thing is, the images are bright under low light which is an improvement compared to Redmi Note 11 Series.

The 8MP ultra-wide sensor is there and it’s just there. If there is enough light then it will take good images but under low light, the images will come out soft.

Surprise, we will skip the 2MP macro sensor.

The 16MP front camera is social media ready, you won’t have to use any kind of filter, just take a selfie and post it on social media and you will look white.

One more thing, Redmi has added a new feature within the Stock Photo Editing app. One cool feature is if you take an image of the sky and if you want to add clouds then go to the edit section and you can choose as many clouds as you want.

Overall, Redmi has worked on the cameras and it does show in real-life usage but still, these cameras don’t justify the Rs 29,999 price tag. The camera is good but they are not as good as the smartphone’s price tag.

As you can see, I didn’t add any camera samples of Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G, so what you can do is, go to this and you will find all the camera samples of this device along with videos too (Fyi, it’s Google Drive Link).

Audio

The device has a stereo speaker with the support of Dolby Atmos. Both of these speakers are good, they’re loud, sound clear, and have a good amount of bass too.

The microphone quality is also solid, so there won’t be any kind of problems with calling too while the carrier aggression also helps when the phone is not getting good singles.

Now, you will be surprised because we don’t really see this feature in Rs 29,999 smartphones…

Yes, I’m talking about the 3.5mm audio jack along with that, it also has the IR blaster as well.

Battery

The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G has a 4,980mAh battery with 120W wired fast charging support and yes, the 120W adapter is supplied in the box.

The device will take about 19 minutes to charge from 0% to 100% which is super fast but make sure you charge the device with a 120W charger.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is battery efficient processor, so there is nothing to worry about it. Expect the battery to last for a day but if you’re a very heavy user then expect the battery to last till 4 to 5 PM.

Here, I have provided the rough numbers, so the real battery life can change user by user.

Summary

The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G is from nowhere a bad smartphone, it’s just that, Redmi is charging a bit premium compared to their competition. So instant you can also consider the Nothing Phone 1 which is available at Rs 27999 and it has better cameras, software, and even a better processor compared to Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G.
