RealMe 9 Pro 5G Review with Pros and Cons – Decent

RealMe 9 Pro 5G Review

RealMe 9 Pro 5G

RealMe is back with their number series, we have two new smartphones under the RealMe 9 Series, the RealMe 9 Pro+ 5G and the RealMe 9 Pro.

Realme 9 Pro 5G could have been the best smartphone under Rs 20,000 like Redmi Note 10 Pro but that didn’t happen still, it’s a good smartphone at a good price but it’s not the best smartphone.

The device is available in Sunrise Blue, Midnight Black, and Aurora Green color options and it will go for sale on 23rd February 2022 at noon via Flipkart and Realme.com/in.

RealMe 9 Pro 5G Review

The RealMe 9 Pro 5G does have its Pros and Cons but even after that, it’s worth buying a smartphone because it offers what other mobile brands are offering, the only difference is OS, the rest is the same as other budget smartphones, nothing else.

One of the downsides would be, it has an LCD display and the frame & rear are made from plastic which doesn’t feel premium at all.

So yes, that PRO naming doesn’t feel well when it comes to Realme.

So now, we can’t call this overpriced smartphone aggressive pricing, it’s a decent offering from RealMe.

Display Quality

The device has a 6.60-inches FHD+ 120Hz LCD with a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, RealMe didn’t mention the display protection while the rear and frame are made of plastic.

I’m not a big fan of LCD panels, I’m okay if the smartphone is priced at 13k or 15k but when we go above 15k, I expect the AMOLED panel.

So yes, RealMe has done cost-cutting in the display, they could have provided the AMOLED but they didn’t.

The LCD panel is good but when it comes out outdoors, the display is not that bright, and the screen is visible but, I expected the brightness to be more than that.

So if you have used a smartphone with 1000 nits brightness then, you will see the difference.

Now, RealMe has added support for Widevibe L1 which means, you will be able to watch FHD+ content on OTT apps like Netflix and Prime Videos.

Overall, the display could have been better but it’s also not very bad, so can’t complain much.

Performance

The RealMe 9 Pro 5G comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 Processor and runs on RealMe UI 3.0 based on Android 12. RealMe has also promised two years of OS updates and three years of security updates.

RealMe has also pre-installed bloatware which can be uninstalled but still, even after paying almost 20k, you have to clean up the mess.

Here comes the confusing part,

Snapdragon 600 Series processors use to be affordable but now, they have changed everything. From now, Snapdraghopn 600 SoC will come under the 20k price range and the 700 series SoC will come under 30k.

In short, the Snapdragon 695 SoC is as powerful as Snapdragon 750G.

The device also has 5G support and it has 11 5G bands which include n1, n3, n5, n8, n20, n28, n66, n38, n40, n77, and n78.

Now, the Snapdragon 695 SoC is powerful enough to handle almost all mobile games.

So there won’t be any problems while using the smartphone in day-to-day life or playing games.

Overall, you will be more than happy with the performance.

Cameras

The RealMe 9 Pro 5G comes with a 64MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and 2MP macro sensor while there is a 16MP selfie shooter on the front.

Both the front and rear cameras can shoot videos at only 1080p@30fps, the cameras rely on EIS which means, no OIS was expected.

Videos do come out well in good lighting conditions but when it comes to low light or night, the cameras suffer a little bit, now the video footage is useable but it’s not up to the mark when we shoot videos under the low lights.

We can’t complain about the night videos because this is a budget smartphone and most smartphone under 20k does the same thing.

Still, I feel, with some OTA updates, the night videography can be fixed but in the end, it depends on RealMe, and when they gonna do it.

The 16MP front camera also takes good videos but sometimes, it messes out the dynamic range, and sometimes, it takes good videos, so it’s hit or miss.

The selfie also comes out very good, likewise, the selfies have a whities color ton, other than that, I feel, you will like the front-facing camera.

Coming to the 64MP primary sensor, here, I feel, RealMe has done a job but still, the image doesn’t come out neutral, RealMe is trying to boost the colors.

For example, if you’re taking an image of the sky then you won’t get the same image, Realme will add extra blue color.

In short, the colors will pop up a little bit more than in reality.

Now, that 8MP ultra-wide sensor is decent enough to take a good image, can’t say the worst or the best, it’s average ultra-wide which gets the job done.

Most budget smartphones’ ultra-wide lenses are decent, so I can’t complain about that. Still, like everything else, the ultra-wide lens can be improved with an OTA update, now it depends on RealMe when they gonna do it.

Also, ignore the 2MP macro sensor, it’s added for numbers only.

We don’t know the actual price of Realme 9 Pro 5G because Realme didn’t disclose that, and instant that, they come up with an introductory price.

As of writing the review, the Realme 9 Pro 5G price starts from Rs 17,999 for 6GB of Ram + 128GB storage. So, the price of Realme 9 Pro 5G can increase but when? no one knows.

Now, at an 18k price tag, RealMe 9 Pro 5G is worth buying but if it does to 20k then, this won’t be the best smartphone to buy, you can skip the smartphone at 20k and look for better options.

Audio Quality

The phone doesn’t have stereo speakers, RealMe has provided a single bottom-firing speaker.

The single speaker is loud enough to watch YouTube videos or even movies without earphones but still, RealMe should have provided stereo speakers.

As this is the price at 18k and the price will increase, I feel, it would have been better if the phone had a stereo speaker.

It also has a secondary noise cancellation microphone along with carrier aggregation which will help a lot in calls.

By the way, RealMe has also added a 3.5mm audio jack which is another plus point.

Overall, the audio and even call quality are good, with no complaints.

Battery Life

The RealMe 9 Pro 5G comes with a 5,000 mAh battery with 33W fast charging support. The 33W charger will take about 59 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%.

Overall, the battery will last for a day, the Snapdragon 695 SoC is power-efficient and will give better battery life.

Verdict

I think you already know, whether RealMe 9 Pro 5G is for you or not.

Now, if you ask me, I would not buy RealMe 9 Pro 5G because of the LCD, I would rather go with Motorola G71 5G (Review) because of the AMOLED display and stock Android.

Like me, you will also have your preference, if you like what RealMe has provided with RealMe 9 Pro 5G then go for it otherwise, you can also take look at this smartphone list.
