OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G Review

OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G Review

OPPO launches premium smartphones under the Reno series and the same can be said for the newly launched OPPO Reno 7 Pro but in this case, It’s a bit pricey.

We have phones like Galaxy S21 FE 5G, OnePlus 9RT 5G, and even Xiaomi 11T Pro 5G, so it doesn’t make any sense to spend 40k just because it has a new design.

Now, for those who wanted a premium feel or unique design, Reno 7 Pro 5G could good option but for those who wanted a value money device, this is not the best option.

By the way, OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G is priced at Rs 39,999 for 12GB of Ram and 256GB of storage, and it’s available in Startrails Blue and Startrails Black color options. The phone will go for sale on 17th February 2022 on the Flipkart website.

OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G Review

Yes, OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G is worth buying but it’s not for everyone, if you wanted premium design and OPPO branded smartphone then, yes, Reno 7 Pro 5G could good option otherwise, we also have options like OnePlus 9RT 5G and even Galaxy S20 FE 5G.

OPPO is charging extra money for a long time and the same can be said for the Reno 7 Pro 5G too. I would have loved to see an 8GB+128GB variant at 30k but that didn’t happen and now, you have to pay 40k for a 12GB+256GB Variant.

There is no doubt, Reno 7 Pro 5G has a great camera setup, it even takes good images under the low lights too but again, it doesn’t justify the Rs 39,999 price tag.

Overall, if you love to take selfies and you only wanted to buy OPPO branded smartphone then do take look at Reno 7 Pro 5G otherwise, you also have OnePlus 9RT 5G which also runs on Color OS.

Display Quality

The OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G comes with a 6.55-inches 90Hz AMOLED display with a pick brightness of 950 nits which means, the phone will be visible under the sunlight.

A unique part of Reno 7 Pro 5G is its design, on the back it has glass, the frame is made out of Aluminum while the front side is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The camera frame is also made out of metal which is another plus point.

Now, we all know, notification lights are gone but OPPO has added the same LED light under the camera frame, so whenever, you got the notification, the camera frame will light up, you can also customize the colors in Color OS. (pun intended)

So yes, if you wanted premium design and build at a 40k price tag then this is the best option you have.

By the way, Reno 7 Pro 5G also has the Widevine L1 support which means, you will be able to watch FHD+ content on OTT Apps.

Overall, you will be more than happy with the display and even with a build, OPPO has done a great job, no complaints.

Cameras

OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G comes with Sony IMX766 50MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP macro sensor while there is a 32MP selfie shooter available on the front.

The rear camera can shoot videos at 4k@30fps, 1080p@30/60fps while the front can shoot at 1080p@30/60fps.

The phone doesn’t have OIS support, it relies on EIS.

Now, the videos will come out shaky, if you use the 4k@30fps mode, so if you want smooth videos then always use 1080p@30fps.

The same can be said for front cameras too.

As this is a 40k smartphone, OPPO should have added OIS support, now you will ask, why they didn’t add it? the answer is, they spent most of the money on design.

Again, the video footage is not that shaky but if you have used any smartphone with OIS then you will see the difference.

OPPO has used Sony IMX766 50MP sensor and the same says everything. The image comes out very good, with no issue with dynamic range and even details.

OPPO has also worked with MediaTek, so the image will come out better. That’s the reason why there is MAX at the end chipset name (MediaTek Dimensity 1200 Max 5G)

Even at night, the image comes out well, so no issue with the primary sensor, you will be more than happy with the 50MP primary sensor.

Now, I can’t say the same for 8MP ultra-wide, it is a good sensor but OPPO needs to work on that, with one or two OTA updates, it can get better.

As of now, the ultra-wide lens is decent. Now, if you can, ignore the 2MP macro sensor.

OPPO is known for the front camera and yet again, OPPO has done the same, the 32MP selfie shooter takes the best image, so if you love to take could then this could be a good option.

Again, there is no OIS on the front too, so if you’re shooting a vlog with the front camera then the footage might come out a bit shaky but it will be useable.

The colors also look good but I feel, OPPO is trying to boost the colors a little bit. Now, this is not a new thing, OPPO has done the same with many smartphones and people do like the saturated color rather than natural colors.

Overall, OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G has a good camera but again, it doesn’t justify the 40k price tag. OPPO is a premium brand, so I don’t think, you will have any issue with the pricing.

Now, if you’re that person who wants value for money device then do take look at Xiaomi 11T Pro 5G.

Performance

The OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1200 Max 5G and runs on Color OS 12 based on Android 11.

Now, this is the same chipset that we have seen in many smartphones but this time, OPPO has worked with MediaTek and added some extra camera features.

In short, that Max won’t affect the performance, it’s the same old SoC with a different name.

OPPO has gone with Android 11, I would have loved to see, Android 12 but that didn’t happen, so we have to wait and see when OPPO will roll out Android 12 for Reno 7 Series.

RelatedBest Gaming Smartphones Under Rs 50,000

Now, the chipset is powerful enough to handle almost every single mobile game, so there won’t be any issue while playing games or even using smartphones in day-to-day life.

Again, we have MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC under 30k and now, OPPO is offering the same chipset at 40k which is kind of not okay.

By the way, we have a couple of smartphone under 40k which has Snapdragon 888 SoC and a better camera setup.

So if you’re a fan of OPPO and only wanted to buy OPPO phones then Reno 7 Pro 5G could be a good option otherwise, it doesn’t make any sense to spend 40k on Reno 7 Pro 5G.

Audio Quality

The OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G has a stereo speaker which works fine, no issues there. Its dual speakers, so can’t complain much.

It also has a secondary noise cancellation microphone. The OPPO Reno 7 5G does have carrier aggregation support.

Now, the phone doesn’t have a 3.5mm Audio jack, so you can either use the 3.5mm to type-C dongle or use wireless earphones.

Overall, the sound quality is good and there are no issues with call quality too.

Battery life

The OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G comes with a 4,500 mAh battery with 65W fast charging support. The 65W charger will take about 31 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%.

Overall, if you’re a heavy user then get ready to charge this smartphone twice a day but if you’re a casual user then, the battery should last for a day.

You can also use the 65W charger, so even if the battery doesn’t last for a day then the will be charged in 30 minutes.

Verdict

OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G has a good camera setup, great display quality, super-fast charging support, 11 5G Bands, solid battery life, powerful processor but the pricing is not perfect.

I mean, for 12GB + 256GB Ram, it’s good pricing but I feel, OPPO should have launched the 8GB + 128GB variant, so users have options to choose from.

Now, in this case, you have to pay 40k for Reno 7 Pro 5G, and at this price tag, I feel, Xiaomi 11T Pro 5G or even OnePlus 9RT 5G is a better option.

Again, if OPPO launches 8GB + 128GB variant at about 32k then it could be a good smartphone but at 40k, I feel, you can get better options.

In the end, it’s your money, so if you like the device then you can pay 40k but if you ask me, I won’t pay 40k for Reno 7 Pro 5G.
