OnePlus Nord 2 5G Review with Pros and Cons – With Color OS

OnePlus Nord 2 5G Review

OnePlus Nord 2 5G Review

OnePlus was unique because of the Oxygen OS but what if I tell you, that X-factor is now gone? Yes with OnePlus Nord 2 5G OnePlus has integrated Color OS into the Oxygen OS, exactly like How RealMe integrated Color OS into RealMe UI.

I have a lot to talk about Color OS and OnePlus but before that let’s start with the Review section and then we will see, how OnePlus settled.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G Review

OnePlus Nord 2 has lots of things which include a Sony IMX766 sensor, powerful MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC, massive 65W fast charging, seven 5G Bands, and a lot more but it also has Color OS and this is where things get tricky. Overall, OnePlus Nord 2 is a great smartphone that offers value at a 28k price tag and it’s worth looking at.

Display Quality

The OnePlus Nord 2 5G comes with a 6.43-inches 90Hz AMOLED HRD+ display with 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution. The display quality is very good as this is an AMOLED panel, black looks black.

The Colors also pop out very well, so whether you’re watching movies or playing games, the colors do look good. Also, the device comes with Widevine L1 Support which means, you will be able to stream FHD+ content on the OTT platform.

The device can also stream HDR content on OTT platforms. It also has an in-display fingerprint sensor which is good as always.

On the front side, OnePlus has used Corning Gorilla Glass 5 to protect the display and the same glass is used on the rear side. While it has a plastic frame.

By the way, the display is visible under the sunlight. So if you use the device under the sunlight then the screen will be visible and you will be able to use the OnePlus Nord 2 5G without any problem.

Overall, I feel a 120Hz AMOLED display would have been a better option but 90hz also works well.

Cameras

The device features Sony IMX 766 50MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide, and 2MP macro sensor while there is a 32MP selfie shooter. The rear camera can record video up to 4k@30fps while the front can shoot up to 1080p@30fps, it also has OIS which gives an extra advantage while shooting videos.

The Sony IMX 766 50MP sensor is the same as the OnePlus 9 but the image quality is not the same as Hasselblad technology does reusables in OnePlus Nord 2 5G.

The color comes out every well whether the images are taken at night or day. So 50MP sensor does make a huge difference.

Talking about 8MP ultra-wide lens, here I feel, the ultra-wide lens is just another addon like a 2MP sensor. The images do come out with good dynamic range but most of the time, images turned out to be soft.

If you throw a good amount of light then, the ultra-wide lens will give the best images but when there is no light or a little bit of light then the images won’t give you that 28k smartphone vibe.

Also, talking about night mode, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G provides the best images at night. It’s even better than Mi 11X, IQOO 7, or POCO F3 GT.

So yes, that 1.9 aperture does help a lot under the low light condition but keep in mind, don’t use the ultra-wide lens at night, always use a 50MP primary sensor because this lens has a 1.9 aperture which lets more lights into the lens.

Coming to selfies, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G has a 32MP selfie shooter. Overall, considering the price tag, there won’t be any problems. It will give the best possible images.

Again, the front camera also tries to soften the image which is good for some people but not for everyone.

In short, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G does have a good camera and it’s a true upgrade from the OnePlus Nord 1.

Performance and Software

The OnePlus Nord 2 5G is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1200 and runs on Oxygen OS 11.3-based on Android 11.

Oxygen OS 11.3 integrates the Color OS into the OnePlus devices. For now, OnePlus added the entire settings menu, Camera UI, and floating widgets from Color OS.

Also, recent leaks have suggested that OPPO’s app store is coming to the OnePlus devices. In short, Oxgyegn OS will only be left with the launcher and everything else will be changed to a Color OS design like RealMe.

OnePlus Nord 2 doesn’t come with bloatware or ads which is still a plus point. Now for how long, the OnePlus devices will be clean? no one knows.

OnePlus Nord 2 Performance Score

Coming to performance, the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 is a powerful processor and there won’t be any kind of problem while playing games or using a smartphones day to day life.

Battery Life

The OnePlus Nord 2 5G has a 4,500 mAh battery with 65W wired fast charging support which will charge the device from 1% to 100% in 30 Minutes.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 is a battery-efficient processor which means the battery will last for a day. Also, that 65W fast charging helps a lot but keep in mind, always keep that charge and cable with you, other chargers won’t able to charge the OnePlus Nord 2 at 65W.

Audio

It has stereo speakers and there is a secondary noise cancellation microphone on the top side.

The sound quality is superb whether you’re watching videos in a public place or playing games, you will be able to hear the sound clearly. Also, the noise cancellation microphone does help a lot in calling.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G Vs POCO F3 GT 5G

POCO F3 GT 5G is a gaming phone which also has a good camera but it’s not as good as OnePlus Nord 2 5G. Also, POCO F3 GT has only two 5G bands whereas OnePlus Nord 2 has six 5G bands.

Overall, for gaming POCO F3 GT is the best option but if you’re a casual gamer then OnePlus Nord 2 is a good option.

Also, I will post a full comparison of these phones by tomorrow which will clear all of your answers. Till then do take look at the specs of POCO F3 GT and OnePlus Nord 2 5G.

Conclusion: Worth Buying?

I think you already know, whether you want to buy OnePlus Nord 2 5G or not but still, if you’re looking for a balanced smartphone under Rs 30,000 in INDIA then yes, OnePlus Nord 2 5G is worth buying, you won’t be disappointed after buying it.

Note: OnePlus Nord 2 5G base variant is for a limited time, so you have to buy 8GB + 128GB storage which will cost about Rs 29,999 in INDA. I really don’t like, how OnePlus just doesn’t sell the base variant, they have done the same thing with OnePlus Nord CE 5G (read review).

Verdict: It’s worth buying.
