Motorola Edge 40 Series is all over the place and now, we have a new member. The Motorola Edge 40 Neo 5G is not a perfect smartphone but it offers features like an IP68 rating and even 68W charging which is a kind of rare under Rs 25,000.
Motorola Edge 40 5G starts at Rs 23,999 for 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage while the 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage variant is priced at Rs 25,999.
It comes in Black Beauty, Caneel Bay, and Soothing Sea color options. The black variant has a plastic back, whereas the other two models feature vegan leather on the back.
By the way, Amazon and Flipkart sales are coming, so make sure you wait for it because you might get this smartphone around 20k.

Motorola Edge 40 Neo 5G Review
Yes, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo 5G is worth buying but it is not for everyone as it doesn’t have good cameras and the SoC is kind of decent but yes, it does have an IP68 rating and even a whopping 68W wired charging support.
Now, the SoC is not that bad but it’s not for power-hungry users. So if you’re someone who loves to play games like COD Mobile or even BGMI for hours then this is not the perfect smartphone for you.

The cameras are kind of meh, it could have been better but this is what it is. This phone is more focused on a curved display, design and offers stock Android which might be enough for lots of users but for others, that won’t be the case.
Display
No doubt that the display is the main highlighting feature of Motorola Edge 40 Neo 5G. The 6.55-inch curved pOLED display is beautiful while the 1300 brightness ensures that everything from text to videos stays visible under the sunlight.
Of course, the curved display comes with some cons, like it will be hard to find tempered glass and you have to be careful because if in case you drop the device it will break.
Now, yes the Moto Edge 40 Neo does have WideVine L1 support and even HDR10 but somehow, the HDR doesn’t work in Netflix. However, HDR is working fine on YouTube.
The In-display fingerprint sensor is solid but this is an optical sensor, so it won’t work if your fingers are wet.
The black variant has a plastic back, whereas the other two models feature vegan leather on the back.
One note, if you’re a rough user then just go with the plastic variant because the leather is very sensitive and if it comes out then it will not look good.

The leather does look great but you have to be careful about it.
The frames are made from plastic which is fine because this is a mid-budget smartphone.
There is also an ip68 rating which is very rare under Rs 30000 but Motorola has added the same in Moto Edge 40 Neo. So yes, if you want you use this phone in the shower.
Overall, Motorola Edge 40 Neo 5G has the best display and the build quality is not bad either. Considering the Rs 23,999 price tag, there is nothing more to complain about, especially the display and build.
Performance
The MediaTek Dimensity 7030 is not made for power-hungry users, it’s the best for those users who love to use social media, watch movies on Netflix, play casual gaming, take video calls, and want a Stock Android experience.
Now, it’s not like the Dimensity 7030 is a bad SoC, it’s not, it’s just that it’s not powerful enough to play games like COD Mobile or even BGMI Mobile for hours.
The phone runs on MyUX based on Android 13.
Motorola offers 2 years of Updates and 3 years of security updates but keep in mind, Motorola is very slow with OS updates. Like, you will get Android 14 after the 1 year of official launch from Google.
This is too bad but hey, at least you’re getting updates.
By the way, Motorola has added 14 5G Bands, so yes, you will be able to take advantage of 5G.
Cameras
One of the biggest problems with Motorola Phones is cameras. Whether they launch 50k or even 20k phones, the cameras are worse.
So next time, when you plan to buy a phone, expect less from the cameras.
The Motorola Edge 40 Neo 5G comes with a 50MP primary sensor which has OIS, and a 13MP primary sensor. On the front, it has a 32MP selfie shooter
The rear cameras can shoot videos at 4K@30fps, and 1080p@30/60fps while the front camera can shoot at 1080p@30/60fps.
Despite having the OIS on the rear cameras, the video doesn’t come out too stable. Now, it’s not like, the videos are just meh. It was like, the video doesn’t come out stable which is bad because the phone has built-in OIS.
Having OIS makes a difference when shooting when you’re talking but in the case of Moto Edge 40 Neo 5G, the OIS is not doing its job properly. I’m hoping that this will get fixed with updates.
The quality of the videos is good, it’s better than the Motorola G84 5G. Also, Motorola has fixed the dynamic range issue but still, the colors are not neutral yet.
They’re more boosted like what we see on Vivo and OPPO smartphones. So expect a little bit more red and yellow colors in videos as well as in photos.
The 50MP primary sensor is doing its job but somehow, it’s trying to sharpen the images a little bit which is not good at all and at the same time, the Ultra-wide lens is doing a better job.
Now, the ultra-wide lens doesn’t provide too much detail because of the small sensor size but still, the quality is better in ultra-wide compared to the primary sensor.
Also, if there is light behind you whether it’s coming from the sun or a bulb then the sensor will have a hard time figuring out what to do with that light, and while doing so, it messes up in image.
The front 32MP sensor is perfect for everyone as it takes good images for social media. Even videos with front cameras come out good which is perfect if you love to shoot short videos for YouTube or even reels on Instagram.
Now, if I have to summarize everything then I would say,
Motorola Edge 40 Neo 5G is not a perfect smartphone and it’s not made for everyone. It’s a great option if you want a clean Android experience with average cameras and decent performance.
The phone looks premium because of the curved display but other than that it’s an average phone.

Audio and Battery
The stereo speakers are not good at all. Most of the sound comes from the bottom speaker while a little bit comes from the top speaker.
If you want numbers then it will be 70% from the bottom and 30% from the top speaker. Of course, there is no 3.5mm audio jack but yes, it does not have a micro-SD card slot.
The 5000mAh battery is solid, you can expect 1-day battery life. However, if you hardcore user then yes, you will have to charge this device twice a day.
Motorola has also provided a massive 68W charger in the box which will take only 15 minutes to charge from 0% to 50%.

Verdict
Motorola Edge 40 Neo 5G has a few great features like IP68 rating, curved display, and even massive 68W wired charging but that doesn’t hide the worse cameras and decent processor for the price of Rs 23999. So if you want a balanced phone with stock Android then go for it otherwise you can also take a look at Infinix Zero 30 5G.
