Redmi Note 8 Pro Review with Pros and Cons

Redmi Note 8 Pro review

For a long time, Xiaomi has used MediaTek Processor in their Redmi series, and believe it or not, most people in India are not happy with MediaTek G90T Processor. Now the reason for that is the heating issue.

By the way, the Helio G90T is specifically designed for gaming, so yes it’s going to be very good for gaming but still, the phone has its Pros and Cons. So let’s do the Redmi Note 8 Pro review and find out whether this phone is for you or not.

Redmi Note 8 Pro Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

Display Quality

The Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with a 6.53-inches Full HD+ display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 2340. It also has a waterdrop notch like Redmi Note 8 and this too is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides.

The display brightness is also quite good whether you’re using Redmi Note 8 Pro indoors or even in direct sunlight, you can see the display without any problem, and the phone has 395 PPI density. From Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi has changed two things, one is waterdrop notch is thinner and the bottom chin is also thinner, so now you get a bigger and better display to play games and consume media.

I haven’t found any problem regarding the display yet, so if anything goes wrong in the coming time then I will let you know.

Performance

The Redmi Note 8 Pro is powered by the all-new MediaTek Helio G90T Soc which is built on 12 nm technology, it’s running on MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 (pie) and as per Xiaomi, this phone will get Android 10 very soon. Redmi also implemented a liquid cooling system in a smartphone to improve the gaming experience, like many other companies, Redmi also added Game Turbo mode.

Now let’s talk about the chipset, the MediaTek Helio G90T has a very powerful GPU but it’s built on 12 nm technology, so it will give you excellent gaming performance but the phone will get warm while playing games for a while because Helio G90T does not balance the GPU and CPU, one is powerful and one is good, so you can’t expect buttery smooth performance.

Tho, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is not that bad smartphone, it just Xiaomi does not have any choice but the Helio G90T. As you can see, Xiaomi also has Redmi K20 which is powered by Snapdragon 730 and priced at Rs 21,999, so they can’t give you the same chipset at the 15k price range, so they used Helio G90T in Redmi Note 8 Pro.

If you can deal with little with heating while playing games then there is nothing wrong with Redmi Note 8 Pro, or if you can’t deal with heating then you can also take a look at RealMe XT which is also available at the same price range.

Cameras

Okay, so Redmi Note 8 Pro is the world’s second smartphone that features a 64-MP camera, just kidding…

Redmi implemented 64-megapixel primary sensor, 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, 2-megapixel macro lens, and 2-megapixel depth sensor. On the front side, it has a 20-megapixel selfie shooter. After Realme 5 Pro, Redmi Note 8 Pro becomes the second phone that has a 64-megapixel sensor.

We can do a long debate about whether you need a 64-MP sensor in a smartphone or a good and optimized 12-MP sensor but that doesn’t make any sense right, so let’s just skip that part.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro does not shoot 64-MP images by default, Redmi has given a dedicated 64-MP mode which you can access on the Mi camera app. I haven’t sported a huge difference between 48-MP & 64-MP sensors, so it’s just for marketing purposes. But of course, it will give you better image quality because the 64-MP sensor has more pixels.

Overall, considering the price tag, Redmi Note 8 Pro has a great camera setup.

OS & UI

The Redmi Note 8 Pro is currently running on MIUI 10 based on Android 9 and the phone will get MIUI 11 update between 18 December to 26 December 2019. There is no official confirmation regarding Android 10 yet.

Like any other Redmi device, Redmi Note 8 Pro also has advertisements built-in OS but it’s not too much as compared to what we have seen in the past. As we all know MIUI is a battery-efficient UI, so yes you will get the best battery life from the software perspective.

Now MIUI is a user-friendly UI but it depends on your personal preference.

Battery Life

I have added this line in every Mobile Review, so here we go “Battery life will depend on your daily uses like what kind of games you are playing, how much time you spend on a mobile phone, etc.”

So no matter how much bigger the battery phone has, it will depend on your daily uses.

By the way, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is packed with a 4,500 mAh non-removable battery with 18W fast charging support and for the first time, Redmi has included an 18W charger out of the BOX. It also has features like NFC, Type-C port, IR blaster, and Redmi Note 8 Pro is also IP52 certified.

Redmi Note 8 Pro Review: Conclusion

I have told you everything about this smartphone, now it’s your choice whether you want to buy Redmi Note 8 Pro or Note. On a closing note, if you want a great gaming smartphone and you can deal with a little bit of heating and you’re okay with the MediaTek chipset then Redmi Note 8 Pro is the phone you are looking for.

Buy Redmi NOTE 8 PRO

Now if you’re not okay with those things then you can take a look at RealMe XT, and RealMe 5 Pro.
