Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G Review With Pros and Cons: Brand Problem

Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G Review

Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G

Xiaomi is known for launching budget smartphones and most people in India know Xiaomi as a budget segment brand, so it will be very hard for Xiaomi to convince Indian users to pay 65k for their smartphone and this is what’s happening with the newly launched Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G price in India starts from 62,999 for 8GB of Ram and 256GB storage while the 12GB Ram + 256GB storage variant option is priced at Rs 66,999.

The device comes with Noir Black, Couture Blue, and Opera Mauve color options and it will be available from 2nd May 2022 at noon via Amazon in India.

Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G Review

Yes, definitely Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G is worth buying but the pricing seems a bit expensive because when we go above 60k, we have better phones from Samsung and even from Apple too, so it will be hard to pay the same amount for Xiaomi as well, in short, if you’re okay with Xiaomi brand then Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G is worth buying otherwise, this is not only smartphone available under 70k in India.

The smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which is a very powerful processor but we all know that it throttles a lot and it’s the brand’s job to work on that but looks like Xiaomi didn’t do anything about it.

The phone does get heat-up after playing games for one or two hours which is not acceptable because this is Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone.

On the other hand, RealMe also offers the RealMe GT 2 Pro 5G which also has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1processor and is available at Rs 49,999 and the phone doesn’t heat up.

Coming to cameras, Xiaomi has done a great job with the cameras but the images don’t come out natural still, the quality of the images ware well.

There is also superfast 120W wired and 50W wireless charging support which is the best feature to have in a smartphone and it will help a lot.

Here, I can’t compare the Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G display to Galaxy S22 series but the quality of the display is overall good.

Overall, for the price of Rs 62999, the Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G is worth buying but if you ask me, I won’t ever pay 63k for MIUI, they have improved the OS but if I’m paying 63k then I will go for Samsung or Apple.

Display Quality

What can I say about the display, Xiaomi has done a great job in the display department.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G comes with a 6.75-inches LTPO 120Hz AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels and it has a pick brightness of 1500 nits. So whether you want to use the smartphone under extreme sunlight or not, you won’t face any issues because the display brightness is beyond good.

As this is an LTPO display, it will save a lot of battery life because it can go from 1Hz to 120hz, depending on what you’re doing on the screen which is a rare feature to have even in a flagship smartphone.

Xiaomi has also added Widevine L1 support along with the HRD10+ which means, you will be able to stream FHD+ & HDR content on OTT platforms.

The display also produces good colors, they are not as good as Galaxy S22 Series but if you haven’t used Samsung’s flagship smartphone then, you won’t even notice the difference.

Xiaomi has also used Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Glass on the front, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the rear while the frame is made out of Aluminum.

Overall, for the price of Rs 63999, Xiaomi is offering a lot in the display department and you will love the display panel.

Performance

For the last two years, Qualcomm hasn’t launched the best flagship processor for Mobile Phones. The Snapdragon 888 SoC has the Throttling Issue and the same is carried forward in Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 too.

We have quite of few smartphones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processors and they have worked on the Throttling Issue in the best possible way but looks like Xiaomi didn’t do much about it.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G doesn’t heat up too much in day-to-day uses but when we do heavy gaming, the phone does get heat-up. Everything can be solved with an OTA update but it also depends on the brand when they gonna do it.

For those who don’t know Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G was globally launched in December 2021 and yet they didn’t solve the Throttling Issue, so I don’t have hope that Xiaomi can fix this issue anymore.

The phone runs on MIUI 13 based on Android 12. We all know, how good MIUI is, so if you’re a fan of MIUI then you will love the software experience (pun intended).

Talking about myself, I’m not a big fan of MIUI, it’s a complicated UI and I won’t ever pay 63k to use MIUI. Here, your experience might bit different, if you love the MIUI then you will be more than happy with it.

Xiaomi has also added 14 5G bands including n1, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n28, n38, n40, n41, n66, n77, n78, and n79.

Overall, for the price of Rs 63999, the chipset is more than capable to use anything but Xiaomi needs to fix the Throttling Issue.

Cameras

The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G comes with a 50MP primary sensor, 50MP ultra-wide lens, and 50MP telephoto lens while there is a 32MP selfie shooter on the front. The rear cameras can shoot videos at 8K@24fps (HDR), 4K@30/60fps (HDR10+), and 1080p@30/60fps while the front can shoot videos at 1080p@30/60fps.

The 50MP primary sensor has OIS support which means, the video footage will come out smooth. Xiaomi has also worked on the OIS too, so it doesn’t feel gimmicky.

Also, I feel, Xiaomi should have added OIS to the 50MP telephoto lens because the OIS could have helped a lot when you zoom on any subject to get stable images or even for videos too.

Anyhow, the telephoto lens also takes good images, the sensor can do 2x optical zoom which is good but I feel, as this is a bigger sensor, 5x optical zoom would have been a better option.

I have said in many mobile reviews that mobile brands should provide a bigger ultra-wide lens and looks like Xiaomi is reading our reviews.

That 50MP ultra-wide takes some of the best images whether there is low light or good lights, the images do come good. No issue with dynamic range or details, Xiaomi has done a great job with the ultra-wide lens.

The same can be said for the 50MP primary sensor too, this sensor has OIS, so the images will able to be stable and again, have no dynamic range or details.

By the way, as this is a Xiaomi smartphone, the sensor tries to boost the colors. For example, the red colors will look a bit more redies and the same for other colors too.

Now, I don’t think most of the users will have any problem with this because most Xiaomi smartphones do the same.

Coming to the 32MP front cameras, here I feel, that Xiaomi needs to work a little bit because the selfie images come out more white, in short, the sensor will make you more white than you’re in real life.

The selfie videos also do the same, nothing new.

Now, the rear cameras do take better videos than front cameras because of that OIS and optimization.

So if you don’t use the front camera for videos then this will be a good smartphone but if you take a lot of videos then you need to reconsider your choice.

Also, as this is a Xiaomi smartphone, you will get all the filler that fin din photo editing apps, in short, you won’t have to use any third-party photo editing apps.

Overall, for the price of Rs 63999, Xiaomi needs to work on the cameras department. The sensors are more than a capacity to do any kind of task but Xiaomi hasn’t optimized the sensors yet to their best.

Audio Quality

The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G has a stereo speaker which works fine, no issues there. Its dual speakers, so can’t complain much.

It also has a secondary noise-cancellation microphone. There is also carrier aggregation support which will help a lot in call.

As this is a flagship smartphone, there is no 3.5mm audio jack. You can use the TWS earbuds or buy Type-C to 3.5mm dongle for wired earphones.

Here, you will be more than happy with the audio quality, and even the call quality is great.

Battery Life

The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G comes with a 4600mAh battery with 120W fast charging support and 50W wireless charging support. Xiaomi has given a 120W wired charger in the box but you have to buy that 50W wireless charger from Xiaomi.

Overall, the battery should last for the day because of the processor but in the end, it depends on you, and how you use your smartphone every day.

Now, if you’re a heavy user then you will need to charge this smartphone two times a day.

You can also use the 120W charger which will take only 18 minutes to charge from 0% to 100%.
