Galaxy A Series is here with a premium price tag because that’s what we have to pay for Samsung Logo. Samsung has recently launched the Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A34 5G while today, we’re about to review the Galaxy A54 5G because it’s big brother.

The Galaxy A54 5G price in India starts at Rs 38,999 while it comes in Lime, Graphite, Violet, and White color options and it will go for sale via Amazon IN from 28th March 2023 at noon.

Now, let’s jump into the Galaxy A54 5G review and find out why this is not the best Samsung Smartphone available in the market.

Samsung Galaxy A54 5G Review

Yes, The Galaxy A54 5G is worth buying but it’s not for everyone, the phone has all the good features like an IP67 rating, 4 years of OS updates, a great sAMOLED panel, and even decent cameras. However, the phone has below average processor which means, it’s not made for heavy usage while Samsung is charging way extra money for the device which is not justifiable at all.

Yes, if you wanted value for money device under Rs 40,000 then Galaxy A54 5G is not the best option.

Still, if you wanted a Samsung device then do take look at Galaxy S21 FE 5G which is available at Rs 39,999, the only problem is, you won’t get 4 years of OS updates other than that, Galaxy S21 FE 5G is a way better option then the Galaxy A54 5G.

Simply, stay away from the Galaxy A54 5G as much as you can, I mean, we have OnePlus 11R 5G at 40k, so why do you want to buy Galaxy A54 5G?

Display

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G has a 6.40-inches 120Hz sAMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a pick brightness of 1000 nits. The phone also has an in-display fingerprint sensor along with widevine L1 support for FHD+ streaming.

By the way, the phone has an optical in-display fingerprint sensor, so yes, it won’t work if your fingers are wet.

The 1000 nits brightness is good enough to use a smartphone outdoors, you won’t face any sort of problem while taking calls or reading messages, and everything on the screen will be visible under the sunlight.

On the front, Samsung has used Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection while the same is present on the rear but the frames are made from plastic which doesn’t feel or look good from any angle.

The back has a matte finish which does give a little bit of a premium feel.

Again, I do feel that Samsung should have provided the aluminum frames because this is Rs 38,999 smartphone but as this is Samsung, this is what we get.

The display also doesn’t have the huge bezels but yes, it’s not symmetrical bezels as we have seen on the Nothing Phone 1.

Overall, the display quality is solid and you won’t face any kind of problems while playing games or even watching movies on Netflix. In the same way, the built quality is good minus the plastic frame.

Performance

The Galaxy A54 5G is powered by Exynos 1380 (5 nm) SoC and runs on OneUI 5.1 based on Android 13. Samsung has promised 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates.

Now, lately, Samsung is providing faster OS updates compared to any other Android brand except Google. So let’s hope, Samsung follows the same path in the coming years otherwise, what will happen to that 4 years of OS update promise?

OneUI 5.1 is feature-rich Android skin and it has improved a lot. Also, Samsung has provided full OneUI support, unlike their Galaxy M Series smartphones.

By the way, Exynos 1380 is comparable to Snapdragon 778G, so you get an idea about the performance.

Games like COD Mobile, PUBG New State, or even BGMI Mobile will run at Medium Graphics which means, the Galaxy A54 5G is not made for gaming at all or even for heavy usage.

So let’s say, you’re that person who loves to play games, uses social media, takes photos & videos, and much more than stay away from the Galaxy A54 5G because this phone won’t able to handle all these tasks.

The Galaxy A54 5G is for everything except for gaming.

Also, Samsung has added all the necessary 5G bands including N1, N3, N5, N7, N8, N28, N66 N40, N41, N77, and N78. So whenever 5G comes to your city, you will be able to take advantage of that 5G connectivity without any problems.

Cameras

NOTE: Instant of adding the camera samples of Galaxy A54 5G here, I have added them on Google Drive, so do check those out and see how is the images and now, let’s discuss those images in detail.

You’re hoping that the cameras on Galaxy A54 5G will be as good as its price tag but hate to break it to you, they’re good but not as good as the 39k price tag.

Let’s start from the beginning,

The Galaxy A54 5G has 50MP primary sensor, 12MP ultra-wide, and 5MP macro sensor while there is a 32MP selfie shooter on the front.

The rear cameras can shoot videos at 4K@30fps & 1080p@30fps while the front camera can shoot videos at 4K@30fps & 1080p@30/60fps.

Keep in mind, the 50MP primary sensor has OIS which does work in videos, unlike other mid-budget smartphones. The OIS only works on 1080p@30/60fps.

The quality of the video is great when there is enough light around the primary sensor but when it comes to low lights, the sensor suffers a lot.

Now, I wouldn’t have complained about it but this is Rs 39,999 smartphone, so the low-light videography issue shouldn’t have existed in the first place

For example, under low lights, the videos will have noise and the sensor will soften the objects, so this is not a premium experience from any area.

Again, the front camera is worst when it comes to low-light videography.

Talking about Photography,

Now, I don’t know what Samsung has done but the 50MP sensors take great images under good lighting conditions. Of course, the images are not as natural as Google Pixel 7 but it’s not worst either.

A little bit of saturation will be there.

The low-light photography is kind of okay, it’s not the worst or the best, it’s kind of average and it can be improved with an OTA update. You can also expect improvement in cameras as the phone will get 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates.

So let’s hope that some of the updates will improve the low-light photography.

Coming to the 12MP ultra-wide lens,

I feel that no brands in the mid-budget segment work on the ultra-wide lens whether 50MP or even 12MP.

Look at the Nothing Phone 1, this phone has a 50MP ultra-wide lens but it doesn’t feel like it. Now, Nothing has improved the cameras after the Android 13 update but still, that 50MP ultra-lens didn’t see its pick performance.

I will say one thing about Galaxy A54 5G Ultra-wide lens,

Use this sensor when there is a good amount of light around the sensor, don’t try to take images at night otherwise, you will regret it afterward. Always, use the primary sensor under low lighting.

The 5MP macro sensor is good and it does what it suppose to do.

Back to the bigger 32MP front camera…

Samsung has done what brands like RealMe, OPPO, Xiaomi and even Vivo does with their front cameras. Samsung has added pre-built social media filters within the sensor, so you don’t have to use them when posting images on Instagram.

What I’m saying is, the selfie will come out a bit saturated and a bit on the whiter side, and again, you can’t do anything about it unless and until you want to Photoshop it.

Personally, I prefer my own skin but Samsung is like, let me just make you a bit softer and white.

Overall, the Galaxy A54 5G has good cameras for the price it comes but it’s not the best, it’s okay cameras and it can be improved.

Audio

No, 3.5 mm audio jack but it does have a stereo speaker with Dolby Atmos support. The sound quality of both of these speakers is great, it’s loud and even clear too.

By the way, 60% of the volume comes from the bottom speaker while the remaining comes from the top speaker.

Also, if you want, you can use Type-C wired earphones.

Samsung has also added a feature called “call focused” what it does is, removes the background noise when you’re on call. This is a very handy feature, especially, when you’re in a public place.

Again, the call quality is rock solid, with no issues whatsoever.

Battery Life

Samsung says Galaxy A54 5G will last for two full days with normal usage but that’s not true at all.

If you’re a heavy user then you can expect the battery to last for about a day but if you’re a normal user then you will have to charge your device the next day otherwise, you will have to use the 25W charger which will take ages to charge from 0% to 100%.

By the way, the Galaxy A54 5G has a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging support and yes, Samsung didn’t provide a charger in the box, so you will have to buy a new 25W charger or use the one you have at home.

For reference, the Samsung Branded 25W charger will cost about 1,099.
