POCO F4 5G Review

Yes, POCO F4 5G is worth buying because the phone has powerful Snapdragon 870 SoC, 67W superfast charging, 10 5G Bands, 120Hz HDR10+ AMOLED display, two years of warranty, stereo speakers, solid build quality, and its available at Rs 27999 which is a good price for what POCO is offering.

Now, there is no doubt that POCO F4 5G is a value-for-money device but you also need to keep in mind that, POCO X3 Pro 5G had a motherboard issue and when the customer went to the service center, they didn’t do anything about it.

The fact that POCO is offering 2 years of warranty but what if the service center doesn’t give a good experience?

Some users have claimed that my POCO X3 Pro 5G had some stretch on the screen and because of that, the service center staff refuses to repair my phone.

So yes, POCO is facing issues with after-sale services which everyone should know about…

Coming back to the POCO F4 5G, the phone has everything that a 30k smartphone should have. Still, it has its own advantages and disadvantages, so let’s talk about that…

Display Quality

The POCO F4 5G comes with a 6.67-inches 120Hz HDR10+ AMOLED display with a pick brightness of 1300 nits and a 360Hz Touch Sampling Rate. The front is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 while the back also has glass which is a great thing as this is available at 28k.

It also has Widevine L1 Support which means, you will be able to watch FHD+ content on OTT platforms like Netflix, Hotstar, and even Prime Video.

Now, if you’re that person who uses a smartphone outdoors a lot then you will be more than happy with the POCO F4 5G because it has 1300 pick brightness which means, the screen will be visible under all circumstances.

Overall, for the price of Rs 27999, POCO has provided good quality AMOLED display, so there won’t be any kind of issue while watching movies or even playing games.

Performance

We haven’t seen Snapdragon 870 processor under Rs 30000 in smartphones because it’s a 2021 flagship processor. So if you wanted to buy a smartphone for gaming then you can consider the POCO F4 5G.

As I have said, the POCO X3 Pro had a motherboard issue which wasn’t handled well by the POCO India team. So yes, after-sale service is still, a big issue for POCO and I hope they fix this as soon as possible.

While doing the throttling test, POCO F4 5G didn’t heat too much, it was stable like all the Snapdragon 870 smartphones.

By the way, for those who don’t know, Snapdragon 870 is a more stable processor compared to Snapdragon 888 or even 8 Gen 1, so there won’t be any kind of issue while playing games like BGMI Mobile, COD Mobile, and even Apex Legends.

POCO has also added 10 5G Bands which include N1, N3, N5, N8, N28A, N38, N40, N41, N77, and N78. Also, India will launch 5G in 17 cities at the end of 2022, so yes, if you’re living in big cities then you might get a chance to use 5G.

Here comes the big part, POCO has promised two years of OS updates, which means, the POCO F4 5G will get updates will Android 14 after that, you’re on your own. The phone is running on MIUI 13 based on Android 12.

Now, talking about myself, I’m not a big fan of MIUI, I feel, it’s the worst Android Skin but your opinion might be different and you may like what I don’t like. So choose wisely because no matter how powerful the chipset is, if the OS is not good then you won’t get the best performance.

Overall, Snapdragon 870 is a solid processor and there won’t be any kind of issue in the performance area.

Cameras

It’s an OIS season because most smartphone brands are adding OIS and marketing heavily on OIS…

The POCO F4 5G has 64MP primary sensor with OIS, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro sensor while there is a 20MP selfie shooter on the front. The rear cameras can shoot videos at 1080p@30/60fps and 4k@30/60fps while the front can shoot at only 1080p@30fps.

Only the 64MP primary sensor has the OIS, other sensor relies on EIS.

POCO has done a great job in OIS, it even works well at 4k@60fps, and even if you want an even smooth result then shoot at Rs 4k@30fps. So yes, this time, OIS is not just a feature, it works well in real life.

The problem is, that the front camera can only shoot videos at 1080p@30fps which is not a good thing because the chipset is capable to choose videos at 4k. I hope, POCO provides the 4k or even 1080p@30fps with OTA updates.

The videos do come out a stable. Now, here comes the key part, the colors don’t come out naturally.

POCO is trying to boost the colors too much, some times, the yellow color looks like an orange, so the color reproduction is not that great which we have seen on most POCO smartphones.

Most people won’t find the oversaturation to be a big issue but if you’re a person who doesn’t like the vibrating colors then you will be disappointed with the camera department whether it’s front or rear.

Other than the colors, there is no issue with the cameras…

By the way, don’t use the ultra-wide lens at night because the images won’t come out great as it’s a small sensor and the quality of that ultra-wide lens is also not very good.

So always, use the 64MP sensor whether it’s night or day to get better images. Again, there is no use for a 2MP macro sensor, so ignore it.

The 20MP front camera does its job, it’s not too good or too bad, and it’s a decent sensor to take decent images. Ins short, if you’re in good lighting condition then you will get a good selfie otherwise, there will be noise in the images.

Overall, POCO F4 5G is a gaming smartphone and POCO is trying to say, it has good cameras but it doesn’t. So if you’re looking for a balanced smartphone then this is not the best option, it’s a great smartphone for gaming.

Here is the camera sample of POCO F4 5G…

Audio Quality

What I liked about it, POCO has provided the USB Type C to 3.5 mm Converter in the box, so if you want to use wired earphones then you won’t have to spend Rs 500 for a 3.5 mm Converter. It means, no 3.5mm audio jack on POCO F4 5G.

It also has a secondary noise-cancellation microphone which will help a lot in calling too. Also, it does have carrier aggregation support.

The stereo speakers work great, there are loud and clean too.

Overall, the speaker quality is great and there is no issue with the call quality too.

Battery Life

The POCO F4 5G comes with a 4,500mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. The 30W charger will take about 38 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%. Also, the 67W Power Adapter comes with the smartphone, so no need to buy it separately.

The 4500mAh battery will last for a day without any problems but if you’re a very heavy user then you will have to charge it twice a day.

Verdict

There is no doubt that the POCO F4 5G is a value money device but it does have its Pros and Cons which I have already mentioned, if you’re okay with its flows then yes, you can consider buying POCO F4 5G otherwise, this is not the only smartphone available under Rs 30000 in India.

Everyone has different priorities, one user might want the best processor, one might want the great design and one might want the best user experience.

Talking about myself, I can live with decent cameras, one time I can work with RealMe but I can’t live with MIUI or Fun Touch OS. So in this movement, I would consider the Motorola Edge 30 5G (review) because of the clean Android experience and it also has a good processor, the cameras are not that great which I’m okay with.

In short, you won’t get everything in a mid-budget smartphone, so choose things you can’t live with.

Reasons to Not Buy POCO F4 5G?

There are three main reasons to not buy POCO F4 5G which are poor after-sale service, MIUI, and decent cameras compared to its competition.
