Motorola G84 5G is the perfect smartphone in every single area except for gaming which is not a bad thing at all, it’s just that, Motorola is targeting different kinds of users.

The Motorola G84 5G comes in only 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage while it’s priced at Rs 19,999. It’s available in Marshmallow Blue, Midnight Blue, and Viva Magenta color options.

Motorola G84 5G Review

Yes, Motorola G84 5G is worth buying as it has everything from decent cameras, long-lasting battery life, 120Hz pOLED display, NFC, a 3.5mm audio jack, a stereo speaker, and 256GB of storage. However, if you want the phone for gaming then kindly stay away from this phone as it doesn’t have a powerful SoC.

Now, keep in mind, that 12GB RAM is virtual, the actual RAM is only 8GB. Still, I feel 8GB of RAM and 256GB Storage for Rs 19,999 is rare to see.

Do note, that virtual RAM is a marketing tactic and it won’t enhance the performance. So better, don’t opt for virtual RAM.

It would have been great if Motorola had launched the 6GB RAM + 128GB Storage variant at Rs 17,999 but that didn’t happen.

NOTE: Snapdragon 695 SoC only supports 8GB of RAM, so there is no way Motorola added a whopping 12GB RAM in Motorola G84 5G. It feels and looks like a marketing technique. So just don’t fall for 12GB RAM because it’s not true. Nonetheless, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage are under Rs 20000. So it’s all good.

Still, Motorola G84 5G is the perfect smartphone for day-to-day usage and you won’t face any sort of problems in any area except for power-hungry games like COD Mobile or even BGMI Mobile.

Now, with that said, let’s dive deeper into the Motorola G84 5G.

Display and Build

The 6.50-inches 120Hz pOLED display is great to have in a Rs 19,999 smartphone whereas the 1300 nits brightness is a rare combination at this price tag.

This is a 10-bit HDR10+ panel which means, you will have a great time playing games or even watching movies on Netflix as it supports wide wine L1 but sadly there is no support for HDR on any OTT platforms.

The In-display fingerprint sensor works just like any other optical sensor, so there is nothing to worry about. Finally, Motorola has moved from side-mounted to in-display which is always a good thing as this is a 20k phone.

The build quality is not the best but it gets the job done. It has a Plastic back, and plastic frames while there is no mention of what kind of glass Motorola has used on the front display.

Now, you can also get Leather back which is only available in Marshmallow Blue and Viva Magenta color options whereas Midnight Blue is available in plastic back.

So choose whether you can  Leather or Plastic back, also keep in mind that the price is the same for both the variants. Motorola has also added IP54 which means, this is dust and splash-resistant.

The good news is, the Motorola G84 5G has a 3.5mm audio jack along with proper stereo speakers.

So yes, the display is perfect for the price it comes with. While build quality is not up to the mark, it’s not bad either.

Performance

The Snapdragon 695 5G is not a bad processor from any angle, it’s just that it’s an old SoC that’s not powerful enough for heavy gamers who love to play games for hours without any breaks.

Long story short, if you’re planning to buy a smartphone for gaming then kindly stays away from the Motorola G84 5G and consider the newly launched Infinix Zero 30 5G which is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 8020 and is priced at Rs 23,999.

Still, for normal gaming, Motorola G84 5G is not a bad option either but don’t expect powerful performance.

Motorola G84 5G has 14 5G Bands which are n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n28, n38, n40, n41, n66, n77, and n77. This means you will be able to take advantage of the 5G network without any sort of problems.

It runs on MyUX based on Android 13 and Motorola has promised only 1 year of OS updates and 3 years of security updates. This is the biggest downside of this phone.

Android 14 is around the corner and it will officially launch in the next 1 month. So yes, providing only 1 OS update at this movement doesn’t make any sense.

Now, the good news is that there are no ads in the UI. You will get a clean Android experience along with a few extra features that Motorola has added to the UI.

The end story is, if you’re not power-hungry users who don’t play games for 4 to 5 hours every single day then Motorola G84 5G is the best smartphone for you but if you’re a heavy gamer then kindly stay away from this device.

Cameras

Cameras have been a weak part of Motorola smartphones for ages and there is nothing new about the Motorola G84 5G. Now, the good news is, the cameras have been improved from the Motorola G82 5G but it’s not a huge upgrade.

The 50MP primary sensor takes good images and it doesn’t boost the colors too much, it’s trying to keep that neutral look.

The details are also there and the good news is that Motorola didn’t add extra white colors to the human subject. This means the images will come close to what it is.

This is all good under sunlight but when it comes to low light, the dynamic range is not perfect or too bad. It needs a bit of improvement and I feel, the cameras will get better because Motorola is saying that “we have created a new R&D team for cameras, especially for Indian users”

So let’s see how low-light photography improves with future updates.

The Moto G84 5G also has OIS which does work but it’s not the best, it’s there for the showcase. OIS doesn’t feel neutral in any areas at all.

The 8MP ultra-wide lens is a solid one that provides the best images under great lights but when it comes to low light, the sensor suffers a lot.

This is nothing new, most of the 8MP ultra-wide struggle under low light.

Talking about 16MP front camera is just like any other front camera, it adds a white tone along with a little bit of extra colors which is justifiable because this is what most users want.

Now, yes, you can play around with settings but you know it, no one will spend 10 minutes adjusting the setting to take 1 picture.

The Snapdragon 695 5G doesn’t support the 4K video recording, so we’re stuck with 1080p@30fps for the front camera and 1080p@60fps for the rear camera.

Overall, the Motorola G84 5G doesn’t have the best cameras but they’re not bad either. I feel Motorola will fix the dynamic range issue but when, we have to wait and see.

Check out the raw camera samples of Motorola G84 5G.

Audio and Battery

Motorola G84 5G does have a 3.5mm audio jack along with a stereo speaker which is great for the price it comes. The 40% volume comes from the top speaker and the remaining 60% comes from the bottom speaker.

So yes, you will be more than happy with the quality of the speaker Motorola has used on this phone.

The 5,000mAh battery will last for 1.5 days but if you’re a power-hungry user who uses everything from gaming, and watching movies to talking video calls for hours then you will have to charge the Motorola G84 5G twice a day.

The 33W wired charger is supplied in the box.
