Motorola G72 Review with Pros and Cons: CTRL+Z

Motorola G72 Review

4G smartphone at Rs 18999 is kind of hard to sell because 5G has been launched in India and will be available all over India by the end of 2023.

That said, the device does have solid specs except for the 5G connectivity, so let’s find out in this review whether you should buy Motorola G72 or not.

Motorola G72 Price in India

Motorola G72 is priced at Rs 18,999 for 6GB of Ram and 128GB of storage while it’s available in Polar Blue and Meteorite Black colors in India. It will be available from 12th October 2022 via Flipkart at noon.

Motorola G72 Review

Yes, Motorola G72 is worth buying but it’s not for everyone because this is a 4G smartphone, and yet it’s priced at Rs 18999 which is not a good price to pay for a 4G at this movement. However, it’s a good smartphone for day-to-day usage but it’s not made for heavy gaming.

This means if you wanted to use 5G connectivity and you will keep the smartphone for more than two or three years then it’s better to get a 5G smartphone but if you don’t care about the 5G then you can consider the Moto G72.

The Moto G72 has almost everything from a super bright pOLED display, longer battery life, loud speakers, 3.5mm audio jack, pure stock Android experience, no ads in the UI, all the necessary sensors, and even In-Display Fingerprint Sensor.

So you have to decide whether you’re okay with a 4G smartphone or not.

If you ask me if I’m paying more than Rs 15000 then I will get a 5G smartphone because I will keep whatever smartphone I buy for at least two years.

Display

The Motorola G72 comes with a 6.55-inches pOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels and a pick brightness of 1300 nits. It also has a 576Hz touch sampling rate and a 120Hz screen refresh rate.

The display is HDR10+ and 10-bit certified which will provide good colors while watching movies or playing games.

The front is protected with corning gorilla glass 3 while the rear and frame are made from plastic. The back is glossy, so it will leave a fingerprint.

By the way, the 1300 nits brightness will help a lot when using Moto G72 outdoors, you won’t face any kind of problem while reading text or watching YouTube Videos whatsoever.

Because of the pOLED panel, the bezels are less, other than that, it will provide the same colors as AMOLED panels.

I can even say that, as of now, the Moto G72 has the best display for under Rs 20,000 in India.

Overall, you will be more than happy with the display and even the build, I wish, Motorola had gone with a glass and metal frame but nonetheless, the device has the best display compared to its competition.

Performance

This will be a big issue,

We have recently seen MediaTek Helio G99 in POCO M5 which is available at only Rs 12,499 while Motorola has added the same chipset in Moto G72 which is available at Rs 18,999.

So yes, Motorola should have gone with the 5G chipset because 5G will be available all over India by the end of next year.

We all know that most Indian users keep their smartphones for more than two or three years, so I feel, when a user spends more than Rs 15000, he or she should get a 5G smartphone because 5G is here and it will be made available for everyone every soon.

Back to the chipset,

The MediaTek Helio G99 SoC is an upgraded version of the Helio G96. Mediatek has mainly updated the CPU which means, the SoC should provide the batter battery life while the GPU has also gotten a little bit of upgrade.

You will be able to play games like COD Mobile and BGMI Mobile at 40fps which is not good at all for Rs 18,999 smartphone.

Again, there won’t be any kind of issue while using a smartphone in day-to-day life but if you play heavy games for hours then the device will get hot and frame drop here and there.

Now if you’re normal users who only use social media, and watch movies and YouTube videos then the MediaTek Helio G99 is sufficient enough.

The device runs on Android 12 based on MyUX 3.0, Motorola has promised 1 year of OS updates and 2 years of security updates. There are no ads or bloatware.

Related5 Best Smartphones Under Rs 25000

Now, this is a big problem because most smartphone brands are promising two or even there years of OS updates and here Motorola is only promising one year of OS updates which is not good at all.

All in all, the Motorola G72 is not for everyone,

Cameras

The Motorola G72 comes with 108MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and 2MP macro sensor while there is a 16MP selfie shooter on the front.

The rear camera can shoot video at 1080p@30/60fps while the front can shoot at only 1080p@30fps.

The videos do come out good under good lighting but when it comes to low lights, the sensor suffers a lot, it creates lots of noise, and because of that, the videos don’t look good at all.

It gives a 10k smartphone vibe.

Also, there is no OIS, so the video will come out shaky, the EIS helps but not much.

Talking about the 108MP primary sensor,

It doesn’t provide the 108MP look-like images, it more feels like 8MP sensor images. Now taking images under the sunlight, the images do come out good, the details are there, no issue with dynamic range and even it doesn’t add too much colors.

The same doesn’t happen when we take images under low light. Motorola needs to fix the low light photography issue because it’s not only with this device, most of their budget smartphone doesn’t take good images under low light.

What I’m saying is don’t fall for the megapixel count.

Coming to the 8MP Ultra-Wide,

It feels more gimmickry than 108MP primary sensor, it tries to saturate colors and it adds too much noise even under the good lights. The good thing is, it doesn’t have the dynamic range issue.

I will say one thing, don’t try to use the ultra-wide lens at night, always, use the primary sensor.

That 2MP sensor is added for showcase, so let’s move to the front camera.

The 16MP selfie shooter takes good images under good lights, I mean, you will love the colors because Motorola has added more white colors.

Motorola is doing the same as Vivo, OPPO, and RealMe. Now, this makes more sense because people love to add a filter and Motorola is like why bother, we will add the white filter with the sensor.

Concluding everything, yes, the camera could have been better and so is the price.

Audio

When a smartphone doesn’t have 5G, it will have everything else…

That said, yes, the device has a stereo speaker along with a 3.5mm audio jack. There is also Carrier Aggregation which will help when the smartphone is not getting enough single.

The speakers are loud and even clear too, so yes, you will be more than happy with the audio and even call quality.

Battery

The Motorola G72 has a 5,000 mAh battery and supports 33W fast charging & yes, the charger is supplied in the box.

The battery will last for a long time because of the MediaTek Helio G99 processor, if you’re a heavy user then you will have to charge the device between 8 to 9 PM but if you’re a normal user then the battery will easily last for a day.

In short, you will be more than happy with the battery life, also, use the 33W charger when needed.

Summary

Motorola G72 could have been the best smartphone but the lack of 5G and MediaTek G99 made the smartphone decent while the device could have been a bit cheaper. However, it’s not a bad smartphone, it’s just that, it’s a 4G smartphone for casual users.

3.6

If you wanted a Motorola smartphone with 5G then you can also consider the Motorola G82 5G, it has almost the same specs as Moto G72 but G82 has 5G support and better cameras.
