Motorola G31 Review

Motorola is doing great in the smartphone market, they have launched Moto Edge Series and now they have launched a new budget smartphone under the Moto G Series which is Motorola G31.

The Motorola G31 has its pros and cons but even after that, it’s a good smartphone. So let’s review the newly launched Moto G31 and see, whether you should spend 13k or not. but before that let me share with you the India price of the Moto G31.

Motorola G31 Price in India?

Motorola G31 is priced at Rs 12,999 for 4GB of Ram and 64GB storage while 6GB of Ram and 128GB storage option is priced at Rs 14,999 in India. It’s available in Mineral Grey and Baby Blue color options.

Motorola G31 Review

Motorola G31 is worth buying but it’s not for everyone, it does have an FHD+ OLED display and clean stock experience but it doesn’t have powerful SoC. So if you want OLED and Stock UI at a budget price then Moto G31 is the best smartphone otherwise, take look at Redmi 10 Series.

Moto G31 is powered by MediaTek Helio G85 which is a good SoC but it’s not worth the 13k price tag. Motorola should have gone with Helio G95, also, the device has eMMC 5.1 support which is also not a good option at a 13k price tag.

In short, if you want a clean Android Experience and OLED display under Rs 15,000 price tag then Moto G31 is a good option otherwise you can also take look at Redmi Note 10s.

Motorola G31 Pros and Cons

PROSCONS
OLED DisplayeMMC 5.1 support
Clean Android Experience MediaTek Helio G85 SoC
No Ads Stock Camera App needs improvement
Good Camera Setup Single Speaker
Solid Battery Life Only 60Hz Refresh Rate
3.5mm Audio JackUnspecified Display Protection

Those were the pros and cons of Motorola G31. Now let’s go deep down and find out what Motorola has to offer.

Display Quality

The Motorola G31 comes with a 6.40-inches OLED 60Hz display with 700 nits of brightness. Motorola didn’t mention what kind of display protection they have used on the front side while on the rear, the device has plastic.

The phone doesn’t have a 90Hz or 120Hz screen refresh rate but it does have a good quality display.

Now if you ask me, I will choose 60Hz OLED over 90Hz or even a 120Hz LCD panel. Also, Motorola has used good quality OLED panel, so there is nothing to worry about the display.

One thing to note, even though the device has an OLED panel, Moto has gone with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor instant of in-display.

Overall, there won’t be any kind of issue while using the smartphone outdoors, you will be able to use the device without any problem.

Performance

The Motorola G31 is powered by MediaTek Helio G85 SoC and runs on Stock Android 11. The device will get Android 12 updates and two years of security updates.

In short, no Android 13 Update for Moto G31 as per Motorola India.

Now, we have seen MediaTek Helio G85 in a couple of smartphones and they have performed well. Keep in mind, most of the smartphones with Helio G85 were priced at around 10k to 11k while Moto G31 is priced at 13k.

Here, make sure you pay attention.

Phones from Redmi, Realme or even from Samsung has ads in the UI where they earn money while Moto phones don’t have ads in the UI that means, Moto can’t earn any additional money after the sale.

This is the reason why you see, moto phones are a bit pricey compared to Redmi or RealMe phones.

So you have to choose, good experience or decent. Also, you can get POCO or Redmi or even Realme phones with MediTek Helio G85 SoC at 10k but those phones will have ads in the UI.

Coming to performance,

The MediaTek Helio G85 is a good processor but at a 13k price tag, it’s not the best SoC to buy. Also, it has eMMC 5.1 storage support that means, sometimes, the phone will feel slow.

As of now, the device the working fine but in long run, the device might feel slow because of the slow storage speed.

Overall, Motorola has compromised the chipset.

Cameras

It has a 50MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide, and 2MP macro sensor while there is a 13MP selfie shooter. The device can shoot videos up to 1080p@30fps with both cameras, with no support for @60fps.

One thing I liked about the primary sensor is, they capture the natural colour which is the best you can ask for in a budget smartphone.

Now, some people do like saturated colours and those people need to use some fillers.

Also, the 50MP sensor takes some good images even under the low lights but keep in mind, as this is a budget smartphone, don’t expect too much from the camera department.

Considering the price tag, Moto has done a good job with the primary sensor.

These days, it is hard to find an ultra-wide lens under Rs 15,000 but Moto has provided an 8MP ultra-wide which is a good thing.

By the way, an Ultra-wide lens also has an integrated depth sensor.

The ultra-wide lens does capture some good images under the good light but when it comes to low light, the sensor does suffer a bit. In short, don’t use the ultra-wide at night.

Also, forget about the 2MP macro lens, it’s just for numbers.

That 13MP selfie shooter does its job. Nothing extraordinary with the front camera. It’s a budget front camera and it gets the job done.

Overall, Motorola has done a good job with the cameras this time but still, I feel, they need to change the stock camera app.

Also, the Moto G31 has a dual-capture feature which means you can use, both the rear and front camera at the same time. Moto also lets you use, all the sensors at the same time which is a good feature to have at a budget price tag.

I would say, just re-design the Moto stock camera app or just pre-load the Gcam.

Other than the camera app, you will be more than happy with the camera performance.

Audio Quality

The Moto G31 has a single bottom-firing speaker which is pretty loud but not very loud. Also, Motorola had added support for Dolby Atmos which is another plus.

The call quality is also good, you won’t face any problem with the calls. By the way, it does have a 3.5mm audio jack.

In short, the Moto G31 has a decent speaker which is acceptable as this is a budget smartphone.

Battery Life

The Motorola G31 comes with a 5,000 MAh battery with 20W fast charging support.

Expect the battery to last for about a day, it’s not the two-day battery. Also, it has an FHD+ AMOLED panel, so it will consume more battery compared to an HD+ LCD panel.

Overall, if you’re a gamer who plays games for five to six hours then you have to charge Moto G31 two times but if you’re a casual user then there is no need to charge two times.
