OnePlus 8 Pro Review with Pros and Cons

OnePlus 8 Pro Review

Premium smartphone from OnePlus arrived this year, yes I’m talking about OnePlus 8 Pro, this smartphone has everything which you wanted in OnePlus phones. The OnePlus 8 Pro has an IP68 waterproof certificate, wireless charging support, and great design, so let’s do the Review and find out the Pros and Cons and see is it worth buying or not?

Before we jump into the review, let me tell the India Price…

Quite of few people said that, OnePlus 8 Pro is overpriced but I think it’s not and this is what we gonna find out in the Review…let’s begin…

Display Quality

Let’s talk about numbers “The OnePlus 8 Pro display has earned a rating of A+. OnePlus says its display has broken 13 records at DisplayMate”. Just like the DxOMark rating, we also have a rating for Display’s as well, overall, you’re getting the best display at a good price range in Android smartphone.

The phone comes with 6.78 inches QHD+ with 3168 x 1440 pixels display resolution. OnePlus has also added a 120Hz screen refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. Overall, these features will you best user experience.

The OnePlus 8 Pro also has the MEMC technology which is a frame insertion technique to convert low frame rate videos to a higher frame rate. For example, most of the video streaming apps support up to 60fps but this MEMC technology will convert up to 120fps for significantly smoother playback.

This tech will also be applied to games as well, so if you’re playing PUGB and if you want to boost frame rate then MEMC will help you to do that.

Overall, What OnePlus has provided is just amazing. If you love to play games, watching movies then this display will give the best possible experience, huge thumbs up to OnePlus.

Design

As I have said in many Mobile reviews, the design depends on a person by a person. For example, some people like pop-up selfie camera and some don’t, so I won’t say much about design. First, see the phone and if you like what OnePlus has produced then buy it or skip it. OnePlus did a good job.

Performance

The OnePlus 8 Pro is powered by powerful Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 Soc with 5G connectivity and paired with 8GB of Ram and 128GB Storage, or 12GB of Ram and 256GB Storage, there is no micro-SD card slot present.

Now, I don’t want to say, how OnePlus 8 Pro will perform but still, the phone will give you everything you need. For example, if you want to play PUGB, the phone you will give a buttery smooth performance, even while switching between apps feels smooth.

Overall, that 120Hz screen refresh rate comes in very handy. Also, the phone is running on OxygenOS on top of Android 10. OxygenOS is the best OS available for the Android platform. In short, Rs 54,999 will pay off, you will not complain about performance.

Cameras

OnePlus went with a 48MP camera setup. The phone comes with 48MP Sony IMX689 with f/1.78 aperture, again 48MP ultra-wide lens, 8MP telephoto lens, and 5MP Color Filter Lens which will come in handy for Instagram lovers.

The Quad camera setup can shoot videos up to 4k@60fps and have Super Slow Motion 1080p video at 240 fps, 720p video at 480 fps, and Time-Lapse up to 1080P 30fps, 4k 30fps. One the front side, it has a 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 selfie shooter with f/2.45 aperture and this can shoot videos up to 1080p@30fps.

I have added the images above, do let me know, what you think about cameras. If you ask me, OnePlus has done a great job with cameras this year. Finally, I can say, OnePlus 8 Pro has a great camera setup because last year launched OnePlus 7 series has the below-average camera and the cameras were the only downside of OnePlus 7 Series.

The phone also has the night mode integrated into the system app and this year we have the improved version of night mode. You will get more natural colors with OnePlus 8 Pro, so no over-saturated images, no extra-white images this year, the phone will give you more realistic images.

This OnePlus 8 Pro will give the best quality images and yes, you won’t regret buying this camera. Overall, I think what OnePlus has provided is acceptable at 55k, so nothing to worry about cameras.

Battery Life

I don’t usually say much about battery life because it depends on a user by user, some people can kill the battery in 6 hours and some manage to get two-day battery life. The OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a 4,510 mAh non-removable battery with Warp Charge 30T Fast Wired Charging and 30W Wireless Charging support.

The phone can’t be charged at 30W with every wireless charger, to charge at 30W, you need to buy OnePlus’s wireless charger which costs around 70 dollars. You can not charge OnePlus 8 Pro at 30W with your wireless charger, it doesn’t matter whether your charger supports up to 40W wireless charger or more.

Update 29th April 2020 at 09:17 OnePlus revealed the India price for Warp Charge 30W Wireless Charger. The Warp Charge 30W Wireless Charger is priced at Rs 3,990 and it’s available in White color option.

In short, OnePlus wants to sell its own branded wireless charger. You have to buy an OnePlus wireless charger to charge OnePlus 8 Pro at 30W wirelessly. As of now, OnePlus hasn’t revealed the price for the wireless charger but it won’t be very cheap because of its 30W fast charger.

Here “the battery life depends on your phone use if you every day play games for 6 hours then you need to charge a phone every 6 hours but if you’re like me and don’t use the phone very often then it will last for a day.”

Software & UI Experience

I don’t need to introduce the OxygenOS yet I just want to say one thing, OxygenOS is the best UI available on the Android platform, you will forget the stock UI, once you use OxygenOS.

The OxygenOS has covered everything from Dark Mode to display customization. Good thing is, it’s clean, and yes you won’t find any kind ads in UI which is a good thing because other companies like Realme and Xiaomi have implemented ads in their UI.

Overall, OxygenOS is clean, shooter, and fastest UI available on the Android platform.

Price and Availability

If you want to buy OnePlus 8 then as of now we don’t have the India launch date but I think the phone will be available after the lockdown. OnePlus 8 is available in Glacial Green, Ultramarine Blue, and Onyx Black color options.

Conclusion: Why you should buy it?

OnePlus 8 Pro comes with 6.78 inches QHD+ display, HDR 10/10+ support, 30W fast Wireless Charging, Snapdragon 865 chip with 5G connectivity, OxygenOS on top of Android 10, 120Hz screen refresh rate, IP68 waterproof, also it has Quad camera setup and the phone is priced at Rs 54,999 for 8GB and 128GB storage.

What else you need on a smartphone. I would say OnePlus 8 Pro is worth buying at 55k. There is nothing wrong with this phone, so if you want to buy a new phone and if your budget is above 50k then you can buy this phone, you won’t regret.

The phone has everything you need. Overall, if you want to buy a new smartphone above 50k then OnePlus 8 Pro could be the best phone for you. Yet, if you don’t like edge display and want the best cameras then you can buy Galaxy Ultra or iPhone 11 Pro which will cost you 30k more.
