Is it worth buying Xiaomi’s Redmi 8A

Redmi 8A launched

The Redmi 8A is a budget smartphone and its kinda good for those people who are looking for a phone under 10k because the phone has almost everything that you are looking for. By the way, the phone is priced at Rs 6,499 for 2 GB Ram and 32 GB inbuilt storage, it will go for sale via a Flipkart India on 29th September 2019.

Is it worth buying Xiaomi’s Redmi 8A

The Redmi 8A has the same Sony IMX 486 sensor which is currently present on Pixel 3, so camera quality is going to be good. Now, it depends on Redmi, how well they optimize the camera for Redmi 8A, all tho, a sensor is very good. The phone is powered by Snapdragon 439 which is built on 12 nm technology which means it can handle little bit gaming, So if your budget is only Rs 6,499 and you can’t spend more then that, so yes Redmi 8A could be the phone you are looking for.

But before you made your decision, let’s take a closer look at other stuff that Redmi is offering at Rs 6,499.

Performance

As I have said, the Redmi 8A is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 which is built on 12 technology with Adreno 505 GPU and ARMv8 CPU. It’s running on MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 (Pie). The phone will get MIUI 10 update when Xiaomi announced the MIUI 10 for Global market, for now, it’s only available in China.

By the way, this is the same chipset that Xiaomi has had used on Redmi 7A, so there is no upgrade in performance. So if you have used Redmi 7A then yes performance is going to be same. Snapdragon 439 is not very powerfull chipset but it can handle day to day uses very well, all tho, don’t expect gaming to be very smooth.

Cameras

The phone features a single Sony IMX 12-megapixel  rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera setup. As I have said, it’s the same sensor that Google has used in Pixel 3, so camera quality should be good but now it depends on Xiaomi how well the optimize the camera quality.

As per pricing, don’t expect too much from a camera, it’s going to be good but not good as Pixel 3. So yes, I think at Rs 6,499 it is worth the camera quality.

Battery Life

The Redmi 8A has huge 5,000 mAh battery with 18W fast charging support, all tho, Redmi will not provide an 18W charger in the box that means you need to purchase 18W adapter separately. The phone also has the Type-C port which is very good according to the price tag.

The phone comes with 6.20-inches HD+ display with a resolution of 720 pixels by 1520. yes, it has HD+ display which means battery life is going to be great because of less display pixel = great battery life. MIUI is also battery efficient OS, so a battery must good on this device.

If in case you run out of battery, you can also charge Redmi 8A with 18W fast charger which you need to buy separately.

Redmi 8A Conclusion: Buy or not?

If the budget is only Rs 6,499 and you can’t add single rupee on that budget then Redmi 8A is the phone you are looking for. Now if you can add two thousand more then go with RealMe 3i, Asus Zenfone MAX M1 or RealMe 5. So it depends on your budget.
