Redmi Note 9 Pro Max Review with Pros and Cons

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max Review MobileDrop

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, yes we got Max version this time and that means Redmi Note 9 series has Redmi Note 9 Pro, Pro Max, and Redmi Note 9 is on the way. I know, companies are launching too many smartphones but what we can do about that, let’s just skip that part and find out whether you should buy Redmi Note 9 Pro Max or not?

First, let’s see what is the price for this newly launched ‘Max’ version.

Price has been changed for almost every single smartphone because the Indian Government has increased the GST on each smartphone. I have added the new prices down below…

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max Price

Display Quality

The phone comes with a 6.67 inches FHD+ display and yes this too has LCD panel due to that punch-hole camera placement. No AMOLED at 15k, do note, Redmi has provided good quality LCD panel but can’t compare with AMOLED. So if you consume more media content then I would say, buy a phone that has an AMOLED display.

The reason for that is, you will get a better color and good experience with AMOLED display then you will get with LCD.

By the way, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max does not have the 90Hz which you will find in Realme 6 series smartphone. So if you want to experience what it’s like to use 90Hz display then do take a look at Realme 6 or 6 Pro.

Design

Redmi Note 9 Pro and 9 Pro Max has the same design, I will add some lines from our Redmi Note 9 Pro Review here,

“One thing I like most of this Redmi Note 9 series is design. I mean just look at the rear side, you can’t even tell if this is a budget smartphone or premium smartphone. The phone also curved from the side edges that means you can hold the phone very easily.

The camera placement is also present at the right place and it looks amazing, I mean that horizontal round on the top two sensors is eye-catching. In short, redmi has done its great job in a build as well as in design.”

The best thing in this Redmi Note 9 series is design, I mean just look at it, it feels and looks amazing.

Build Quality

To protect the display, Redmi went with coring gorilla glass 5 which also preset on the rear side as well, so there is nothing to worry about the build here. As I have said, Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max have the same design, the same thing goes to build as well.

As per the company, the phone has a three-layer of protection, so if you drop the phone, it won’t break very easily.

Software Experience

I don’t think, I have to say much about software but still, for those who don’t know,

Redmi Note 9 Pro is running on MIUI 11 on top of Android 10. Now I won’t say anything about OS because it depends on a user by user, whether you like it or not? decide for yourself.

UI is very fast and as of now, I haven’t face any problem while using it. One good thing about MIUI is, it will give you the best battery life and reason for that is, redmi has optimized the UI especially for battery, in short, the battery is going to be better than any other Android UI.

Now, some people like the custom UI and some don’t, it depends on you whether you want MIUI in your next phone or not?

Performance

Redmi Note 9 Pro and Max Pro are powered by Snapdragon 720G, so performance is going to be the same on both the phones. A difference you will note when you compare 4GB Ram variant with 6GB or 8GB Ram variant.

Antutu Score

GeekBench Score

Snapdragon 720G is built for gaming, so if you’re gamer and want to buy a new phone then you can take a look at Note 9 Pro Max but keep in mind, at 15k you also have POCO X2 which is powered Snapdragon 730G. So decide which one you want to buy, Redmi or POCO?

For those who are asking, you can play PUBG in HD+ graphics.

Cameras

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max comes with 64MP Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 5MP macro lens, and 2MP depth sensor. That punch hole has a 32MP selfie shooter.

This is Max out version and yet it doesn’t have Sony’s IMX686 64MP sensor, so this is a kind bummer.

Camera quality is going to the same as what we have seen in many smartphones which had 64MP Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor, here Redmi did some improvements because of the Redmi phone.

This is only me when you take a picture with Pro Max, the color turned out little bit saturated, for example, if you have taken an image of black color then that black color will pop-out a little extra then what is there in reality.

The same thing we have seen with Realme, OPPO, Vivo, and even with Samsung and why mobile companies do that? Because most people like bright colors, so this is what you like and this is what companies are given.

This won’t be the problem for many people because they like pop-out color and that’s why I added ‘This is only me’ in the beginning.

Something from Redmi Note 9 Pro

“The Rear cameras support the company’s super stabilization, 4K video recording at 30fps and 960fps of slow-motion video as well. The cameras also have other features like portrait mode, in-built filter, and what you usually get with Redmi devices.

Redmi has also included all-new ‘Pro Color’ mode which will saturate the color and give you better color reproduction. If you have used realme device then this same feature is available in Realme devices with the name of Chroma boost mode, so nothing new here.

The phone also has dedicated night mode which is improved from the last generation, but like always, the Gcam app will be out very soon, I will add here, once it’s out.”

Battery Life

The phone has a whopping 5,020 mAh non-removable battery with 33W fast charging support. You will get one-day battery life but it depends want kind of activity you do on a smartphone.

As per Redmi, a 33W charger can charge 0 to 50 percent in under 30 minutes. So if in case, you run out from battery, use a 33W charger to powerup battery.

Here we go again “the battery life depends on your phone use if you every day play games for 6 hours then you need to charge a phone every 6 hours but if you’re like me and don’t use the phone very often then it will last for a day.”

Conclusion

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is not a bad phone, it has everything which 15k smartphone should have. You got, Snapdragon 720G which supports Navic GPS, Quad camera setup, punch hole display, whopping 5,020 mAh battery with 33W fast charging support, great build quality, superb design, what else you want.

Update 12th June 2020 at 09:13 AM (IST) As you know the price for Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has been increased and I would say, POCO X2 would be a great deal. As of now, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is priced at Rs 17,999 while POCO X2 is priced at Rs 17,499. I highly recommend you to go with POCO X2.

The problem is, we also have POCO X2 which is priced at 15k. Now, this phone has a better internal, better camera, better build quality, so I would suggest you take a look at POCO X2 and then decide whether you want to buy Redmi note 9 Pro Max or not?
