POCO X3 Review with Pros and Cons

POCO X3 Review

POCO X2 is dead now, I mean latterly, Whoever bought POCO X2 in last seven days these guys will get angry because POCO just launched the all-new POCO X3 at the same Rs 16,999 in India. The POCO X3 is the first phone to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G Processor which is slite upgrade from Snapdragon 730G, so let’s review the POCO X3 and find out why this is the best phone you can buy under Rs 20,000 in India.

POCO X3 Price in India

POCO X3 price in India starts from Rs 16,999 for 6GB of Ram and 64GB storage while 6GB + 128GB is priced at Rs 18,499 but if you want more storage then there is also 8GB + 128GB version which is priced at Rs 19,999 in India and it’s sold via Flipkart India website from September 29, 2020. The phone is available in Cobalt Blue and Shadow Grey colour options.

POCO X3 Display Quality

Dimensions165.3 x 76.8 x 9.4 mm
Display Size6.67 inches
Display TypeFHD+ LCD Panel
Display ProtectionCorning Gorilla Glass 5
Screen Refresh Rate120Hz refresh rate
Resolutions1080 x 2400 pixels resolutions

There is no upgrade in Display quality because POCO X2 also had the same LCD 120Hz screen display, so it’s the same display. As I have said in POCO X2 Review, the display is great, this is the best LCD display you can buy under 20k in India. Of course, AMOLED would have been a great option but POCO wanted to give 120Hz screen refresh rate panel instant of 60HZ AMOLED display.

The phone also has a punch hole which is placed in the center. Everything looks the same from the front side but thing changes from the rear side because POCO has changed the design which looks way better then what’s present on POCO X2.

In short, this is the best LCD panel you can get below 20k, that said, it’s LCD. So you don’t like LCD display then this is not the best option for you, you can take look at RealMe 7 Pro which is priced at Rs 19,999 in India.

POCO X3 Build Quality

Build Glass front (Gorilla Glass 5), aluminum frame, plastic back

Good thing is, the phone has an aluminum frame and bad thing is, it has a plastic back which is a downgrade from POCO X2 because this phone has Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides. So I don’t get why POCO went with a plastic back.

By the way, this is not re-brand phone, maybe that’s why they went with plastic back while POCO X2 was re-brand version of Chinese Redmi K30. By the way, you can’t tell from the images that POCO X3 has plastic build but when you hold it, you will feel the plastic.

Almost every single mobile brands are offering plastic back, even recently launched RealMe 7 Pro has a plastic back. So here I can’t complain. Also, I don’t think most of the people will change their mind because it has a plastic build, I also don’t like plastic build but hey, the phone also has good cameras, huge battery, and 120Hz screen refresh rate and that’s why I think POCO has done cost-cutting.

POCO X3 Cameras

Rear Camera64 MP Primary
13 MP Ultra-Wide
2 MP Depth
2 MP Macro
Rear Camera (Video)4K@30fps, 1080p@30/120fps, 720p@960fps
Front Camera20MP Front Camera
Front Camera (Video)1080p@30fps

The POCO X3 has new 64MP Sony IMX 682 sensor which is good as compared to last generation but it’s no like, you will see huge difference from Sony IMX 686. Both the sensor is almost close, there is nothing new here but hey, it’s new sensor, so what I can say.

As I have said, POCO X3 has shoot videos at 4k@30fps while the front camera can shoot at 1080p@30fps. It also has all the feature like, Slow-Mo, night-photography filter, video filter which we have recently seen in RealMe 7 Pro.

I have said in many reviews that 2MP+2MP sensor is just added to say, our phone has quad camera setup. Like always, more sensor doesn’t mean best image quality, so you can just ignore the 2MP depth + 2MP macro sensor and let’s talk about 64MP primary sensor and 13MP ultra-wide lens.

64MP sensor will give the best possible result in every condition whether you’re taking photos in low-light conditions or good lighting, this sensor will provide good looking images. I will add some of the images which is taken from POCO X3, so do let me know, how is the camera quality?

It also has 16MP selfie shooter which also take good images, by the way, I didn’t notice a huge improvement in selfie camera, I think it’s the same as what’s present on POCO X3. Also, the ultra-wide lens does take good images, you can see the details but images turned out little but white or maybe you can see Sharpe.

By the way, this is a problem with every single budget centric smartphone, so can’t complain here. I think this can be fixed by OTA update or just use GCam.

Overall, I think POCO has done a good job, there is nothing more to complain about because this is 16k phone and POCO is offering good value for money product, they can’t give you everything in one single phone. I do think, this phone has the best cameras under Rs 20,000 in India as of now because Redmi Note 10 series is also on the way, so for now, this is the best budget centric phone you can buy in India.

POCO X3 Performance

ProcessorQualcomm Snapdragon 732G (8nm)
CPUOcta-core (2×2.3 GHz Kryo 470 Gold & 6×1.8 GHz Kryo 470 Silver)
GPUAdreno 618
OSAndroid 10 based on MIUI 11 (no ads)

This is the only phone under Rs 20,000 that has Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G. There no complaints about performance, you will get the best gaming experience with POCO X3. Also, there are some games that support 90fps, so 120Hz screen will be helpful. It’s running on Android 10-based on MIUI 11 but this phone doesn’t have the ads while Redmi phone has, so this is also an advantage with POCO phones.

AnTuTu Score283750 (v8)
GeekBench Score1777 (v5.1)

By the way, it’s not like, the phone won’t get heat, or there won’t be frame drop, there will be but if you play games like COD Mobile or Fortnite Mobile for three to four hours. If you play games for one or two hours continuously then there won’t be any problem.

This is budget phone, so it has it’s restriction but at Rs 16,999, you can’t complain about anything.

One thing to note, if you use that 120Hz screen refresh rate then there will be some frame drop here and there because Snapdragon 732G is not that powerful to handle 120Hz screen refresh rate. It’s not like, you will see the frame drop every single time but sometime you may notice. You can also use the 90Hz option which performs very good as compared to 120Hz.

Overall, I would say, you won’t have any problem with Snapdragon 732G whether you’re heavy user or normal user.

POCO X3 Battery Life

Battery6,000 mAh (non-removable)
Charging SpeedWired charging 33W ( 33W charger will be supplied in the box.)
Charging PortType-C
Charging Time100% in 65 Minutes

I don’t say much about battery life because it depends on a user by user. A person can finish 6,000 mAh battery in only 5 hours while B person can finish in two days. In short, it depends on how the user will us the phone. In my case, the battery lasted for 1.5 days because I don’t play games on phones, just videos and social media.

Also, the POCO X3 also comes with 33W fast charging support, so even if you finish the 6,000 mAh battery in day then 33W charger will be very helpful.

“the battery life depends on your phone use if you every day play games for 6 hours then you need to charge a phone in every 6 hours but if you’re like me and don’t use the phone very often then it will last for a day or so”

POCO X3: Verdict

POCO X3 is power pack smartphone, it has great camera setup, powerful processor, massive battery life, new design, fast charging support and no ads in the UI. So if your budget is under Rs 20,000 and if you want the best smartphone then POCO X3 is a great option to go with.
